    Hi there Guys,

Just to let you know that we will be holding one of our regular Coal Train Days on November 8th. Should be quite a nice time of year to get some photography done now that the cold weathers starting to draw in!

Currently its "Renishaw Ironworks No.6" planned for the Coal Train and "Sir Cecil A Cochrane" taking the Passenger.

    Look forward to seeing you,

    David.

From a photography perspective I agree that the light at 8am recently has been fantastic. Whether it gets onto the line or not at that time, I don’t know. Perhaps someone from the railway can advise.

I would have thought the only place light is on the line at 8 am is at East Tanfield or above Bobgins. An early start isn't too much of a benefit as the light is good at East Tanfield most of the day and ok at Bobgins in the morning. Only benefit may be some early departures from Marley Hill Yard but with the waggons at East Tanfield I wouldn't have thought it an option?

Good luck with the event - will probably not make it this time but will see you in Feb.

    Cheers,

Sorry everyone, had a stinker of a week so only just got back on here to update you all

Engines (Renishaw No. 6 on coal, Sir Cecil A Cochrane on passenger) should be lit no later than 7am so there should be plenty of time for some photography on shed

Engine and vans will leave Marley Hill at 10.20, first coal train departure from East Tanfield will be 11.00 then at 12.14, 1.29, 2.44, 3.59, and then engine and vans again at 5.20.
Andrews House coal train departures for Sunniside are 11.35, 2.05, 3.20. The 1.11 departure from Andrews House to East Tanfield will run round in the station first so a run past to just past the signal box.

    Passenger departures from Andrews House are 11, 12.15. 1.30, 2.45 and 4.00 and from East Tanfield 11.40, 12.55, 2.10, 3.25 and 4.40.

    Hope that's ok folks?

Now to let the loco crews know!

Looks like a good day apart from perhaps the weather.

Out of interest why was 49 in steam or was it just some oily rags?

Also gald to see the double track is coming along well...I hear Tornado is visiting next year!

replacing a section of track between terrace junction and the newly laid track at Bowes Bridge.

Were making up the track along side the running line and then putting it in.

No. 49 was being prepped for its annual steam test the following day.

And as 12in Coch says the sleepers visible were for our next section of relaying. Should get that rattled off fairly soon I'm led to believe which will mean Terrace Junction to Bowes Bridge will all have been relaid within 12 months and all the way from Marley Hill platform to Sunniside has been done within the last few years.

There's a stretch from Burdon Dene to Bob Gins to tackle and then there's some spot resleepering after that so if anyone fancies lending a hand you'd be made most welcome - and I can promise that trackwork at Tanfield is a right hoot and great for working up an apetite/thirst and making sure you sleep well the following night!

Track laying is fun, I helped lay track down to Causey Arch which shows how long ago I volunteered, actually We also laid track down to East Tanfield, working parties were fun and it appears from the names mentioned and pictures shown that quite a few fellow volunteers aren't around anymore.

People come and go, and age is one of those things, but Tanfield has a fresh young labour force for track work my self, PJ&R watchdog and the list goes on.
But there are still some of the older lot going, Vic still going with the digger now, 77 and still going, he’s been laying sleepers ready for the new bit of track between the new section at Bowes Bridge and Terrace Jn,

Using the digger & and forklift tractor.

It was sad to hear about Derek as he was fantastic and my dad fired with him on a number of occasions, he also let me drive Progress on an unfitted freight which was great. Glad to hear Vic is still going. I've spotted Peter W, Tommy and Smudger in pictures but wondered if Neville is still at Tanfield?
