Since being bought from SLL by Mr Hosking in 2004 along with 35022 for spares (some of them major like err, the boiler) and moving to Southall for overhaul to mainline standard I know of nothing beyond that. I'm guessing the restoration of 6100 used much resources at Southall but I would also assume that the overhaul of 35027 can proceed at full speed now.

So, what do people know of her current status?

I believe that the restoration is due to start in earnest in the New Year / early 2010. Here's hoping!!

There's a lot of overhauls going on with Jeremy Hosking's pool of locomotives at the moment. 'Raveningham Hall' (almost complete?) and 'Britannia' (probably a couple of years away from steaming?) spring to mind. Other than that, there's been an information blackout regarding 35027, although I frequently see what's left of 35022 whenever I go into London.

Probably next year actually, and hopefully in the first half of the year if Steam Railway is to be believed - the boiler looks like it is nearly ready to be fitted up for testing out of the frames.

    Regards,

    Dan

Excellent. I knew there was a LOT of work to do on the firebox, but I didn't realise that progress was this advanced. Thanks for the update.

Now has the work been done by the same team that rebuilt 6100 ?

i wonder how much Port Line's restoration will cost its owner, another million maybe?
getting on to Britainia i remember talking to one of the suport crew when she stayed at ropley in between main line runs, he said that even then the firebox was very fragile and that they had to treat it very carefully and not over stress it , it would be interesting to see how she compairs with ollie once restored, imagine that 2 brits on the mainline, who woud have guessed that year ago

That's a confusing question. Do you mean "the work" on 70000? And if so, is that the boiler work or something else? And do you mean the team that re-built 6100, or the team that re-re-built it after certain "issues" were discovered on it?

Given The Beano's track record at predicting these things, we should expect 70000 to take a little longer than that ;-)

I didn't reference 70000 at all . Others did . Since the engine is being worked on at Southall my enquiry is reference that location

70000 has been overhauled at LNWR Crewe, where it went after Pete Waterman acquired a controlling interest. I don't know of any locos overhauled there recently that have had anything other than normal teething troubles. Britania should be OK.

I suspect Sidmouth is refering to 35027, which is main the subject of this thread. Given the various problems arising from 6100's overhaul at Southall, I think we have all wondered whether 35027 is similarly affected, and if so, to what extent? The fact that she is still there suggests that JH is content with the situation, at least for the time being. His role on 6100's trust means that he will be very well aware of all the details of that case. I don't suppose he'd hesitate to move Port Line if he thought it necessary. After all, he has good relationships with the engineers at Crewe, Tysley, Ropley and Williton (and maybe other places that I can't recall off-hand) any of which might be able to provide a suitable home.

Has any work actually started on 35027 yet?

I heard last week that 35027 may go to Crewe after 70000 is finished.

if that is indeed the case, then its a daming verdict on the standard of work that Southall turns out , and i would be very surprised if 6100 is allowed to be based there and under the control of its former engineer,

I also heard that 6100, after her ML test runs and first charters will be based at a Preserved line for ML operation and not Southall.

That would be something to put in the 6100 thread, but it definitely sounds like a damming verdict
