As far as pulling power went, 'Twerp was a good engine during its time in NYMR service. Its main problem was that it wouldn't steam and that is something that was never really overcome.
You're right about the NCB North Yorks Area maroon livery, as applied by that master craftsman, Jack Collins. The quality would give any LMS loco a run for its money and probably beat it.

    Number 8 and the 'MOG'

The rest of number 8, the chassis and wheels are now at the Flour Mill along with the MOG, The plan is to bore both the loco's cylinders at the same time, Number 8 is a 5 to 10 year project to be worked on as and when funds are available. It is an exiting prospect to have two Austerities working at Blaenavon.

It was indeed very satifying to see the mog loosing its BR guise and slowly returning to her former glory. See http://aligrieve.fotopic.net/c1763366.html for updates on 7169's restoration. This should be updated weekly ish with pictures of the Flour Mill Action!!

    Watch this space!

We have had the greatest most enjoyable day down our small railway yesterday! Cranford No 2 AB 1931 and Sentinal No 7 all in steam! the first time we have had more than 1 steam loco in operation on our railway for as lond as I can remember! The double heading of AB1931 and Cranford No2 on our 10 Iron ore Tipplers and the LMS brake was particularly satisfying!!! Also a cracking night shoot! Nice to meet you at last Sidmouth hope you got the photos you were after!

What a truly great day . thoroughly enjoyed and great to meet Hunslet 24 and Wickham Fan .

Here we have a line that exudes a real industrial feel with a cracking set of engines and rolling stock . Thanks to all at the RRM and Russ Hillier for organising . I'll try and post some pictures over the next few evenings

    Re http://aligrieve.fotopic.net/p61346004.html

It is a good sign, I'm not a fan of fake J94s.

The numberplate went back to its previous owner

As Al says I'll be keeping the fotopic site updated with progress of the Mog.

Now, does anyone know where we can get some 16t minerals from (or borrow on very long term loan)

and whilst I'm here here's a shot a couple of shots of the lovely N0.19 in action

The owner is planning to move to Foxfield and restoration will continue once on site. Not sure of timescales yet but it is hoped it won't take too long (as long as his pockets aren't too deep!)

Frames are now all painted to final top coat of Indian Red, Wheels are out for attention to axle boxes. Springs are all refurbished ready for axle boxes to go back in. New smokebox wrapper has been ordered. Loco got to be back on wheels before Firefly arrives as we have to extend Bolton's Siding 10ft to fit Firefly on!

Further to my post a few days ago about ex-LMR 152 "Rennes" arriving at the SVR Bridgnorth Works, there are now a couple of images on the svr-engineering website showing the start of the contract work on this engine. Saddle tank repairs and firebox stay removal.

    Tommy Royden taper wedges

Hi guys need some help! We have lost the wedges to Sir Thomas Roydens motion and are in need of some replacements, the only thing is! Did these wedges have a set size when they were made or are they made individually to suite? Are there any set dimensions for the taper or am I just going to have to make best fit? Any help in this area would be appreciated! Cheers chaps

Have you tried Statfold to see whether they hold the relevant drawings in the Hunslet archives? Not sure how far through cataloguing what they have yet but could be worth a call.

Presumably you are referring to the taper cotters from the coupling & connecting rods? (If not, more detail required!). Do you still have the glut blocks? These are the blocks with the taper slots in that the cotters locate in. If you have these it is fairly easy to determine the angle of the cotter from the slope of the slot in the glut. If you don't have them, you are at square one and you may as well simply make up a set to your own dimensions. Phillipson suggests a taper of 1 in 16 and there is a North British drawing showing a taper of 1 in 20. 'Locomotive Management' contains a drawing of an LMS inside cyl big end with a cotter having a taper of 1 in 16. As for the other dimensions, it is going to be a bit of careful measuring. I'd guess that they all started life as the same size but it may be sensible to make each one bespoke if the bearings have been reduced down at some time. If you are starting from scratch, with both cotter and glut, I'd draw them out full size and be certain that there is sufficient clearance to actually assemble them!
The Barclay drawings, if they exist, are supposedly in the Business Records Centre, University of Glasgow Archives.

Thanks steve that is a big help! the locating holes are in the actual rods so measurement should be an easy affair! will give it a go anyway!

I'm not too certain that we understand each other with this! The 'holes' in the rods will give you an idea of the width of the cotter but nothing more. I was referring to the gluts. These are the blocks of steel that bear against the half brass. They have a groove machined in them which is tapered to suit the taper cotter and into which the tapered cotter fits. The cotter and the glut need to match as a pair.
