Excellent video as well gents, thanks for sharing.

Incidentally, apart from any issues about taking water along the way, were the engines topped-up with coal at any stage during the day?

Yes it certainly does sound like an armchair brigade comment.... The people who run these engines/trains do actually know a little bit about what they are doing, they have been doing it for many years!
The water problem arose after the tanker that turned up at lightmoor junction did not have the capacity that was required or requested.... The loco's were booked to take coal at the SVR...
On arrival at wolverhampton it was deemed that 9466 required water to complete the journey to bescot, so as not to risk having to bail the fire out at the side of the mainline and cause massive delays....
The fire brigade did not come out as it was never that serious, a hydrant was used outside the great western pub.....

Think yourself lucky. No announcements or explanation at all in first class.
Having said that a very enjoyable day with delays caught up. Engines worked hard up Old Hall but all in all it seemed very easy.

Thanks to all involved in the planning and running of the tour.

A 37 tour i was on last year stopped in roughly the same place so suggests things being made unnecessarily arkward is not something new, this look familiar to anyone on board yesturday ? : http://david1984.fotopic.net/p54920412.html

Security issue as an excuse is laughable, i can't see a power station as that vunerable (coal fired type anyway) surely would be more of a inconvience than disaster if anything happened ?.

First of all great footage of our tour yesterday. It must have taken planning on a military scale to be in position to take each shot.
As I've said on previous threads without the efforts of linesiders we wouldn't be able to see the efforts of our work.
As for the water problems at Wolverhampton, yes the fire brigade was an option, but luckily a hydrant was spotted outside the Great Western pub so we didn't need to call on the services of the West Midlands Fire Service.
The only other hiccup was finding that the hydrant at the South End of Bescot Yard didn't work, and the engines had to detach from the train and run round to the North End of Bescot to take water.
The highlight for me was the noise we made as we climbed Old Hill Bank, it certainly bought the residents out to see what was going on, it was just a shame it was done in darkness.

Yes I'm afraid that after the goings on at other power stations around the country, the security staff at Ironbridge decided that a train load of COAL FIRED rail enthusiasts was too much of a security risk and so we were stopped short of entering the power station.
Which explains the reason for the 47 on the train......no run round facilities at the power station.
There were also a number of people in yellow hi vis jackets just short of where we stopped, no doubght to repel the hordes of Greenpeace protesters who had booked on a COAL FIRED steam train to protest about coal fired power stations.
It makes you wonder sometimes about the intelligence of the people running this country.

Your sure Mark ? the coach i was in was more or less on the bridge with the lead 37 on the bend pictured, no indication the loop or buffers were anywhere near.

At least we made it over the bridge, into the power station sidings, with 9466 two years ago.
Looks like that's destined to be a one off!
