The worrying thing is that no-one saw it arrive? On that basis anyone with low loader could turn up and carry out the operation in reverse.

There are certain hauliers who have gate keys for the yard to allow them to deliver when no-one is available to let them in - we are not in the habit of leaving the yard open for a passing haulier to help themselves!

I understand the loco has now been claimed and will be on it's way to it's intended destination shortly. Next time can we have the Fairburn tank or the class 20 please? ;-)

Not the first time this has happened - seem to recall a certain 50xx series Castle being seen by its rather worried owner on the M4 when it was not due to be there at all having been loaded in error!

A bigger cock up than this if you take size into account!

Middleton's unscheduled visitor should be on its way to its intended destination tomorrow (Tuesday). Still not sure where the cock-up has occurred, whether it be with owner, contractor or haulier but, to coin a well used railway phrase, the various parties obviously did not come to a clear understanding! At least it has bought a smile to a lot of people's faces! The disappointing thing is that we couldn't use it for an impromptu gala as it is a non-runner.
To answer someone's query, the car park gates are kept locked but various trusted contractors who come regularly have their own keys; it saves a lot of hassle when you are relying on volunteers and loco deliveries, especially, can be at almost any time of day or night. It is also only the car park that they have access to.

What I would give! to be EITHER the proverbial fly on the wall to hear the explanation by the driver of the lowloader, OR get sight of the form 1 / please explain for this!!

    ....................
and I'll not be the only one, of that I am sure!

I get the impression that the driver was about the only innocent party in the whole affair. Anyhow, the loco has now left Middleton. I'm not going to hazard a guess as to where it will turn up next!!!

I seem to recall hearing of a coach party visiting the KWVR and getting off the train at Oxenhope to find no road coach to pick them up - as they had booked. On contacting the coach company it transpired that the coach was waiting for them after all - at OxenHOLME! I hasten to add that our friends in the Worth Valley were entirely blameless for the error...
