Yes Bittern is out of gauge for Liverpool Street, that was why Tornado hauled the Winton Train ( Bittern was the first choice).

If Bittern is out of gauge, it will probably be Tangmere( Although TOC's have been changed late before, but it has been DBS to West Coast).

I would still expect this trip will run.

John Bunch was quoted as saying(1 - 2 years ago)that Tangmere would be available at short notice, due to its large support crew, who do not live too far away.

Steam Dreams say at the moment there are a couple of issues to be resolved regarding Bittern, these should be resolved in the next couple of days and Tangmere is on standby if required..

Hello, I've now found out there is a problem with Bittern that will be ironed this week. If it isn't Bittern then Tangmere will be doing the tour.

E-tickets have been received, and Tangmere confirmed as motive power due to network clearance issues. Start is Waterloo return into Victoria.

Hello again, I'm now getting extremely confused & rather stressed & you may be able to help. I've been looking at the times Tangmere will be passing through the various stations. I was told the uksteam.info web site was accurate but if you then look at the steamdreams web site (who are the organisers of this tour) the times are significanly different.
    Departing:uksteam info: London Waterloo @ 10:10 Steamdreams: 10:00
    uksteam info: Stratford @ 11:15 (Steamdreams: @ 10:45)
    uksteam info: Shenfield @ 11:45 (Steamdreams info: @ 11:10)
uksteam info: Chelmsford @ 11:59 & stopping for 7 minutes
uksteam info: Colchester @ 12:32 & stopping for 19 minutes
uksteam info: Stowmarket @ 13:36 with no stop
    uksteam info: Ely @ 14:33 (Steamdreams info: @ 13:30)

The return journey doesn't appear to have discrepancies.

So as you can see the times are significantly different which makes it rather difficult for people wanting to see it go by.
Lots of my friends & young children are very excited about seeing this site & I'd hate them & of course me & my son to miss it.

Do you by any chance have the definitive timetable for this tour?
    Many thanks.

    Julia,

The UK Steam times are correct. The stop at Chelmsford is in the Down Goods Loop rather than the station which is due to be passed at 1158.

The UK Steam times are the same as the Network Rail Trust timings.

The Steam Dreams times are only an approximate guide and the finalised actual times have not been added to their web site.

They are the ones that most of us rely on, but always recheck as late possible in case there are any last minute changes.

Are any Nat Pres members travelling on this who could text Julia with any late or early running times if needed? It works for the rest of the linesiders on here quite well and Julia is bringing along a bunch of potential future volunteers ;)

I think you'll find that train ran out of Kings Cross and ran via Cambridge.

As springers has already said, it wasn't the same route, but, even so, and, as has been discussed before, just because a particular loco has used a particular route on a Saturday, it does not mean that it will still be able to use it on the following Monday if Network Rail have been digging up the track on the Sunday.

About 4' late through Manningtree and must have been close to 75 mph as it started to climb the Brantham bank, the train looked well loaded and looked good on a bright sunny afternoon.
