I would imagine that the idea is to make it a little more difficult for any potential freeloaders?

unfortunately that is why . Recent events at the GCR have attracted some who have turned up on the day and despite polite requests to desist or pay to join have had a free days photography .

These events are not run to make a profit for the organisers but for the railways concerned and as Chris has elaborated the charters make the movement costs of the visiting engines affordable to the railways concerned

I would like to stress that for Russ's Charters as well as my own everyone is welcome to join , there is no closed shop. All we ask is you are willing to commit to pay for the days photography and in return we'll try our best to ensure you get the best opportunities , in good company

It is PLANNED to have 'Proto GUV' ready for the gala/charters... It has been stripped of all its bodywork paint and roof vents and a start has been made on the bodywork. Progress is also being made on repairing/rebuilding the end wooden doors. Hopefully it will be done in time :)

We've had similar problems at the Mid Hants so this is a sensible choice, if you are interested in either of the Standard Tank charters please send me a PM for more info. I'd hurry though as places are going fast! As I've previously said, anyone (stills or vid) are welcome to join us.

If the GUV is ready I'm sure we'll use it on the Sunday.

The 3rd visiting engine for the gala has arrived at the railway today - S100 30075 from the Mid - Hants railway. Many thanks to the Project 62 group and the Mid Hants railway for allowing the engine at such short notice to replace S160 5197 as the second engine on the Santa special trains.

30075 should be at the railway until the end of February.

Also at the gala the Moorlander dining set will running serving all day breakfasts and hot drinks.

    Regards

    Chris

In the Cheddleton engine shed at this years gala we will have a selection of loco groups either with their fund raisings stand and/ or their displays stands for the project that they are working on. Amongst the groups that are due to attend are 3 new build projects, these being the Grange project, the Patriot project and the standard 3 tank project.

Also in the engine shed will be S160 6046 which is part way through restoration to working order. S160 5197 will also be on display in the yard.

    Regards

    Chris

One more thing I'd like to ask. Will there be a Heritage Bus operating over the Steam Gala weekend from Stoke-on-Trent railway station to Froghall station?

Think i'll be attending this one on the lineside again, Black Lion apart there are very few decent public spots on the route so a pass is well worth the expenditure, plus as i photter it's easier to give something back than riding a route i know inside out again.

As far as Im aware, the heritage bus connection is running as there is a local bus rally on the same weekend, so services will also connect with that!

I will confirm with the man 'at the sharp end'!

    Hopefully next week.

With there being fewer engines than previous years there is going to be something new tried on the saturday evening. It should hopefully tie in with the Beer Fest at Consall too, just hope it works!

The timetable will be available in the next day or 2.

The something different for the saturday night at consall will be a DMU service for the beer festival at Consall which is a seperate enterprise to that of the CVR's steam gala

    Regards

    Chris

But then again you didn't have a 'star' guest last year, and WSR proved a few years back a big namer makes all the difference.
