This Gresley design BG is about to become redundant at Haverthwaite. Before demolition is considered, is there any group or individual who wishes to express an interest in this vehicle? The L&H Rly Co does not have the time or manpower at the moment to reduce it for spares and would be delighted to see it depart intact for a future elsewhere, even if it is then dismantled.

It is currently in use as a mess van and is generally watertight. A number of previous plans for it have recently come to naught, but it was felt that scrapping the coach without checking with the wider community would be shortsighted.

A possible solution to reducing transport costs would be to combine with incoming stock, thereby avoiding an empty backload.

Details are as follows. Built 1936, sound wooden frame with weary metal sheeting, sitting on Gresley bogies. Number E70361.

Cheap, or even very cheap, to avoid its destruction. Any interest? PM if you wish.

I was thinking exactly the same thing - the NNR would be an ideal home for it (space, finance and will permitting of course).

    Regards,

    Hello,

The Whitwell Preservation Society would love to have this carriage on our site for show to the public.

Who do we need to speak to regarding costs/transport etc?

Please can somebody email: mike@whitwellstation.com or reply to this thread.

    Many thanks.

If this is the one I think it is i have many happy (?!) memories of sleeping in this vehicle during the 1980s - it was the volunteers messing / dormitory coach. If I remember rightly it was fitted with sinks / cupboards etc at one end, and bunk beds etc at the other end. I guess it would be quite a job to get back to original condition - I wouldn't mind having ago - except insufficent funds / time / location etc! Best of luck to someone.

Thanks to this website and forum, disposal of this LNER vehicle has now been agreed.

It is thought that all interested parties have been contacted by telephone, but if you have been omitted, your interest is much appreciated.

To all those who assisted in the process, many thanks,

    Airspeed

yes NNR would have been a good home for the carriage, though they already have a Gresley BG, that will eventually be part of the LNER mainline set, they are also investigating about turning it into a Pathe cinema car:

    Who bought it then?

No I do not currently volunteer
Recently received copy of the LRS / FRT magazine suggests that the arrangement involves both restoration and spares! Essentially there are three parties involved - the carriage goes to one location, and a set of bogies to another. Not delibately being obtuse, just not my place to name the various parties, and the full details, even though it is in the public domain (if you are a member of LRS / FRT).

Well, likewise. I'm told there will be an announcement when the deal is formalised.
