Are there long term plans to extend northwards by a mile and open a new station called Rowsley North to serve the town ?

There are plans to reach Rowsley I believe, but I somehow doubt that the second coming of the railway will result in Rowsley suddenly swelling in size and becoming the "town" reported in today's Beano LOL.

there are indeed plans,at many levels, but the job is far far off and things being fluid plans may change along the way

from the signalling side of things, the plans are already drawn in line with current projects to encompass the neccessary changes for an extension, being that at the nannygoat end of rowsley there are two handpoints and a set worked from the ground frame that will require altering to be worked from a frame and locked by fpls, that will require altering prior to opening the extension.

thus the plan is to move the redundant ex bamford box to nannygoat and reerect as shunt frame to control the hardware that needs altering and give it a purpose controlling the shed exit, the box move has been in planning for a while and depending on things may happen soon,

any future signallling plans for an extension would be as simple as a fixed distant for the extension, simple ground frame and fpl at the facing end and a handpoint at the other, but once again thats a way off and things can change

wil this extension go under the A6 road bridge or stop short?

nannygoat crossing is exactly where our site gate is at rowsley, not the one coming off the a6 road but the one on the end of the site, there used to be a signalbox here for the split in the junction between the fast, slow, sidings lines.

at the old rowsley station im led to believe that the brick platforms are still there, just filled in with rubble, the bridge that is missing beyond was removed, the a6 road has since been elevated to provide a straight run over the river bridge, immediately beyond the missing bridge is cauldwells mill viaduct which is in the ownership of the railway.

bit like bury`s ski jump really.

I wonder if the original station site, ie on the Bakewell line, not the "original" original station, which is marooned in the shopping village, would now be considered unsuitable due to gradient issues, and a totally new station short of this site, "on the level" might be needed? If so, from a quick look as you drive past there doesn't look to be too much space available.

theres room, more than you think as the area at the back of the industrial units is bigger than as viewed from passing the roadway, i believe land has been earmarked in the councils plans at the old station site.
