Blimey an A4 through Cambridge 2 days on the trot! Where will SNG be stabled between the two? It finishes at Cambridge on the Saturday at about 9pm and is due to leave Kings Lynn at about 9:30am. I can't see it going all the way to a London depot for the night.

I'm looking at going to York on this one and if not the London Trip
Looking forward to steaming up the ECML on an A4 again, then going to the NRM to see the bath tub.

£49 is a bargain these days so I predict a sell out.

I see that now the times are posted on uksteaminfo its departing Cambridge about 80 minutes earlier than RTC suggested in their original estimate on their website. Thats a pity as it means even less daylight running. There is also an hour in Peterborough yard on the way up :-( Still looking forward to it though

Have just seen the timings for Christmas Fenman, steam now curtailed to run from Downham Market only to London. Total journey time 2h 52m (including a 20m water stop at Royston)

Could this trip have the dubious priviledge of being the shortest steam hauled sector on a railtour for a while?

    60007 Cambridge to York

Yesterday really was a fantastic day that no A4 fan's wouldn't have wanted to miss. The sound of 60007 accelerating into the night at Whittlesey on the return journey was incredible and you could clearly make out every exhaust beat for a good mile once it had past. Here is my effort from the morning run from Cambridge to York.

I agree. I was freezing as I did a lot of window hanging, the noise from SNG was incredible. Only let down was the stock, my coach had no steam heat and the steam was coming up into the toilet and into the rest of the coach, there was also a heck of a lot of steam leaking from the rest of the train. The stock was also pretty dirty. Otherwise an amazing day, with the bonus of running into York with Earl of Mountedgecome. It passed us just outside the station then ran in a couple of minutes before us.

Its funny you should say that, one of the folks in our carriage was saying something similar. It was 'see your breath' cold for the first 100 miles or so at the back of the train, steam leaks, some carriages not so clean and with the train 20 plus minutes late leaving Cambridge it was just like the 50's all over again ;-) The authentic period experience.

Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
