Can anyone confirm if there is a speed restriction in the vicinity of Buckhorn Weston tunnel after the recent derailment there.

    Many thanks. <BJ>

    How recent?
The weekly operating notice for this week was published about 04 Dec and shows no restriction.
Note that Tangmere is now retimed to run 2 hours earlier on the return, 1641 ex Yeovil Jn.

28th November. A landslide with an estimated 40 tonnes of debris slid down the embankment. A 159 unit was subsequently derailed in the incident. <BJ>

Does anyone know why the return has now been re-routed to run via Staines? I was looking forward to seeing it along the mainline through Surbiton.

11 minutes from a standing start at Sherborne (16:55) to passing Templecombe (17:06) seems a little ambitious, unless the speed restriction under the bridge at Oborne (A30?) no longer applies. Both Ollie and Tornado were slowed to walking pace earlier in the year. It's the foot of a 1-in-80 climb.

There is still a 50mph speed on at the London end of Gillingham Tunnel pending further tamping.

Thanks for the reply. 50mph is a reasonable speed for the approach to the tunnel. <BJ>

I am sure we will get a full report from Don later. But just had a text from him and it seems the Overton-Salisbury section was run very well indeed. Not that far outside even time start to stop with a slow finish into Salisbury. Right up to the max permitted speed through Andover and a very good 67½ mph over Grateley.

Would have gone on that train but still recovering from a nasty bug and felt the day would just be too long for me at present. So I've missed a really good start to stop section.

  11. Good to hear she's going well. Mr FC is out at Lenthay, Sherborne as we speak and I will be at YJ later to see them depart

Of course its 'supposed' to snow tonight, haha.

We get decent snow once every 10 years down south, and always after christmas

The programme is listed in BBC iplayer, but not available to watch or download.

Here is the link anyway. You might have to change the region to West, & scroll down.

I'm increadably annoyed now! Its just starting to snow quite heavily here and I'm literally 5 mins down the road from the mainline but with no means of getting there thats me stuffed! Seeing her on the main at night in a blizzard would have been something special.

What was the reason for the change from the mainline to via Staines in the first place?
