Sorry chris, but i did not see the need for that 'attack'. I did not imply anyone forced me too look at this thread.

    I am being perfectly real.

Just think before you post something like that again chris.

I think the crux of the debate is the upper echelons of the bluebell railway have not woken up to the real world out there, and that news is disseminated out to the big wide world very quickly now via the internet. Trying to keep a lid on news in the old days was next to difficult, but with the internet it’s now just about impossible.

If I was in a position of within the organisation I would make a policy statement to the membership that the place for up to date news is on the web site, and as soon as feasible it will be within the next member’s magazine. Then all this fuss over nothing would go away – and for all those mindless individuals who feel the need to send private emails and the like to shut some well meaning individual would have now’t to do.. . . . .easy isn’t it.

With Blue News being published quarterly it can mean some info is nigh on three months old by the time it reaches us. The internet is the way forward and it would not be that great a task for a members only website to be set up that requires a login to view info that isn't intended immediately for the public domain. The fact that some members cannot or will not access the internet is not reason enough IMHO to rely on old technology to disseminate information amongst the Bluebell membership.

That's all very well, but as you well know there are a 3 or 4 Bluebell ex-volunteers on this forum who already monitor the Bluebell Email Group looking for information to paste onto this and other internet forums, after rewriting what they've learnt so as to present it in a negative light. This is exactly how and the reason why, this nonsensical thread was started.

If people are intent on making trouble, they'll make it come what may. A sad fact but a fact none the less. Slowing down the flow of info won't keep them quiet.

think whatever you wish and knowing this forum you probably will but these are not the same circumstances

Firstly there at the time was no big announcement in the offing and secondly I didn't start the thread but sought by saying as much as I could to calm what was clearly getting out of hand.

Oh and Happy Christmas , Season Greetings and a wonderful New Year

What exactly is Sidmouth holding back ? he's just stating 78022 visited in the past so 78019 is not a "first of class" visit, over the top reaction IMO.

Nice to see some things don't change on this forum.

I looked at this thread to see what the good news from the Bluebell was - at several pages long, i should have realised that all it would contain, would be Bluebell bashing from the usual suspects, and petty squabbling.

The problem of trying to use the "house" magazine to break news to the memmbership is nothing new due to the internet. I am not sure if any heritage group has a monthly magazine yet we have several monthly commercial railway magazines and two that are a little more frequently (4 weekly) - as well as a fortnight magazine that covers modern topics. I can recall complaints years ago that news is first released in monthly magazines but it is difficult to see how this could be avoided before the dawn of the internet. (I know various railways have more frequent newsletters but usually these have a much more restricted distribution than the full membership)

The internet does give an option to distribute information more rapidly but it all needs people and time to do it and the success with which heritage groups have achieved this varies considerably. That is quite ignoring how many group members are regular computer users and how many groups have e-mail addresses etc.

I think it's wildly unrealistic these days to impose embargoes on information until it can be released in a magazine which is only published every quarter, and which has a production lead time of 4-6 weeks.

It's easy to see why many believe that it's part of a Bluebell Management conspiracy.

    This is more like it!
I love the vitriol from the usual suspects.
They indeed know all about abusive emails. They have quite a bit of form in this area. Have you read the ones on Riley's forum?
    Hilarious.
As it goes, the time between press date and publication for Blue News is usually about six weeks.
    Think about it.
Where's the Plc Board vs working members bickering going on at the moment?
It's these dark winter evenings see. I can't help it.

That as may be but David Chappell only ASKED if he could post some news that he had heard and all he got was a load of verbal abuse via E-Mail and the telephone.

I expected the usual towing the official line from those such as Diamond Gaz and Chris Dadson, but hey thats fine they are entitled to their opinions and views, it is just that they get upset when others have opinions too. Even I Like Trains sarcasm is acceptable as another opinion,

Remember myself and others did not raise this subject , someone else did and as it turned out it was a damp squib so shall we call it a day on this one or do others want to keep stirring it?

    Regards
    Chris

This "Good news from the Bluebell" is surely the worst kept secret in the whole of the railway preservation world.
Even up here in the far flung eastern flatlands where anything the other side of Boston matters not one jot, this so called secret has been common knowledge for more than a month.

Get a grip chaps for goodness sake.

It's stupid threads like these that make me question why I even want to be part of a community that is full of those who love to be negative, start arguments, slag off other people and other railways and generally stir the brown stuff.

All we've got from this thread is one post that 78019 will be visiting for the Branch Line and 6 pages of bluebell bashing....

EDIT So I don't get slagged off for being hypocritical, some more news was that Baxter's boiler was filled with water recently

Sense of humour failure here? I think there was a pun implied - so sadly for the Bluebell bashers, it's good news, not bad.

Back to good news - the other thing being discussed is that concievably there could be one item of rolling stock outshopped every month next year - not a bad way to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

Both these Items have been published in the Bluebell News Extra which is freely available around the Railway, I do not think this is what is to be announced.

During the 4 weekends the railway is not running to Kingscote, a timetable from each decade will be put in place, starting with 1963 where trains will make token stops at the site of Freshfield, Holywell and Bluebell Halts. Followed by the 70's and 80's, and the 90's timetable will see a brake van ride or shuttle to Horsted House Farm Bridge to re-create the extension trains back then.

And yes, the other news is the 2MT 2-6-0 is visiting in February.

It was meant with a sense of humour Tom, sorry if that came over differently.

From one of the "usual suspects"
