Does anyone know how many miles she covered on the main line this year? And she could also be a good contender for doing the highest mileage on the main line this year?

I would reckon she is the highest miler this year, she covered 1000 miles or more during the GB2 alone and she's been running out of London almost every week

how many of you can remember back when City of Wells was first thought of to go main line, all the talk of these being to difficault , to unpractical to even be concidered, and look at it now, Wells, showed how sound these engines are, Tangmere has been totally reliable , and with the correct attension these classes need, should just go on running i wonder how long before we see a bulleid double header out of waterloo? and what should lead, a rebuilt or a spam can

Definitely 34067 first, then ?Braunton?. The window-hangers would get less soot on their goggles that way.

Tangmere has a very good record, given her high mileage - as good as any preserved loco, and better than many. However, I think it's an exageration to say she has been "totally reliable".

Turning to the question of a double-header with Braunton - I gather that Braunton has been withdrawn from WSR use for the next few months while she is prepared for main line certification. Watch this space...!

what i meant was, that when you concider how complicated these engines are in their un rebuilt form, Tangmere has prooved to be very reliable , except for the pump issues in her early days, she had as far as i know only failed on the road once , and who could have fore seen that one, this was a class that was thought to not be a wise engine to use on the main line and it was from this view point i was posting , now if you were to have a rebuilt and a un rebuilt across shap, with same trailing loads, which would perform best, my moneys on the un rebuilt they are a much freer running engine , and would it be the best class 7 timings, what other clas 7 could give bullieds finest a run for its money

Thats is fantastic news and lets hope we see 34046 mainline soon...

With regards to a Double-Header - That would be fantastic, but do they allow Double-Headers these days on the mainline?? If they do, I personally would love to see 34046 as the leading loco.. (This could end up in a debate)

Double-headers arent banned, but a second loco (and crew) is a considerable expense which given the tight margins of most railtours cant be justified unless necessary. It still happens though - there were two GWR Panniers on a train just a few weeks back!

There are already quite a few double-headers scheduled for 2010, including
    Sat 20 Feb: 4965+5043
    Sat 27 March: 46115+70013
    Sat 03 April: 30777+34067
    Wed 07 April: 30777+34067
    Sat 10 April: 44871+45407
    Tue 13 April: 61994+70013
    Sat 26 June: 5029+6024
    Mon 28 June: 5029+6024

.... and with rumours of double headed Castles, double headed panniers and double headed Bulleids, it could be a good year for double header fans.

    Happy Christmas

Well looking forward to 'Tangmere' doing her thing - seems she will have another few years left yet mainline, but how about the prospect of 34067 paired with with 34046?????

If I were to put 30120 on the main line, I'd put it on something like an Exeter-Okehampton shuttle. The train doesn't have to be too long, a decent route and a bit of hill-climbing into the bargain would make for a good day out.

Just seeing 120 running again will be enough for me. I wonder if I'll live to see her run beside the Camel estuary and into Padstow? Mainline too? A wonderful daydream but I can't see it happening. 777 + 34067 in Devon and Cornwall next April will be a fantastic sight and sound!!

I wander what speed 120 would be limited too on the main line?
