Graham Bunker stated on the test run that the extra weight on he carrier would not be a problem for an A4, the test train was only restricted to 10 coaches because of the platform work at Kings Cross otherwise it would have been 12.

A friend of mine with a copy of Locomotives of the LNER by the RCTS informs me that an empty A4 tender weighs 64 tons . So yes it would be approximately the weight of 2 coaches .

I suspect you mean full, not empty! To put it in context, 8 tons of coal and 5000 gallons of water (on a normal A4) comes to about 30 tons, so the empty weight of the tender is around 34 tons. If Bittern's second tender is broadly similar in design, but carries 9000 gallons of water and no coal, that's around 40 tons of water, or a total weight of 74 tons +/- a couple of tons - about the same as 2 Mark 1s.
