Radio 5 reports the A6 closed between Shap and Kendal now.

Lets hope our other intrepid members are also out of that area, and that the two Black 5's have made it back South ok.

Saw them on the return through Appleby about 10 down where we had a bit of sleet/rain; but it was snowing quite heavily on the road back to Tebay / blowing off the fields. Will be interesting to see whether anyone actually got to Birkett Common!! Anyway, looked a cracking run and all credit to IR and his team, and of course not forgetting the crews -- if its Frank's last I'm sure he will have gone out in style.
    Hope to post vid later.

Just had word from on board, train has been diverted via Wigan. Missed a path at Clitheroe, late at Blackburn, currently dashing down WCML !!

Just got home after a great trip. The initial delay at Carnforth was because 44781 was taken off and ran to the yard to have a top up of coal, then came back to ther train and had to take on water... Then we had to sit at Penrith for about 20 minutes to allow three trains to pass. The train was back in the platform at Carlisle for a 14.11 departure, unfortunately the locos were no where to be seen so we eventually left about 15 down. The climb up to Ais Gill was hindered by a couple of slacks after Appleby but by the summit we were going well, 44 showing on my GPS. No doubt those who braved the elements will verify that. Arriver at Hellifield on time but both locos had to detach and run over to the west loop to take water. This took longer than expected so we were about 20 late leaving. This then was compounded by having to wait behind a service train from Clitheroe.
We then got word that owing to operation problems we were to divert from Blackburn via the WCML and Wigan. The problem was a failed Pacer stuck in the platform at Bolton. We eventually arriving back at Vic around an hour down.
Very fine performances by all the crew, drivers were Albert on 44781 and Bill on 5407 to Carlisle, Peter Walker to hellifield and Mick Kelly to Victoria 44871 and ? Blair all the way to Vic, 5407.. Sorry cannot quote who the firemen were apart from Ian and Chris on the way out, but no doubt others had a go on the way back.
Matt, that video is excellent under the circumstances and great too see all the traffic stationary on the M6 to see us fly past.... A couple of nice shots Phil... And yes it was nice and warm in the train.:rolleyes1:
Look forward to more soon and I hope my updates proved useful, at one time I was sending 8 at a time, so I do have friends out there..

I was stumped today. I thought a trip to Ribblehead was a good idea, snow, back lit you know the picture you never get. I parked up the car, walked for 20 mins and got a test shot and all looked good, see this http://adriansphotos.fotopic.net/p62717899.html . Less than 5 mins before arrival, I was a lone figure/idiot stood in a blizzard. The shot that was now became the shot that never was http://adriansphotos.fotopic.net/p62717900.html !! On the way back to the car in ankle to shin deep snow, I stood in a snow covered stream and went up to my knee in very cold water.

Not deterred I stopped of at Hellifield for a closer and clearer look of the superb locos http://adriansphotos.fotopic.net/p62717901.html

Adrian, that shot of the train on Ribblehead has drama and really brings out the bleakness of the place in winter.
    Are you feet dry yet....

Almost right Ralph, Ian fired 45407 out with Rob Hawkins on the return and Frank fired 44871 out and Chris Birmingham was on the shovel on the way back.
