I like the clips of the climb towards Ais Gill Ralph with the decent covering of snow and the exhaust being carried by the wind.

Cracking pictures and footage guys in difficult conditions ,here's my attempt from yesterday first off at a bitterly cold and windy Horwich Parkway then for the return at Bolton after being challenged by Northern rail about filming on the platform .
many thanks to Ralph for the updates during the day much appreciated .

A good account by pjhliners. of an excellent trip made all the more enjoyable by sitting at the same table tracking the trip by GPS. Good to have met you Peter and here's to 2010 and more mainline trips.
    Regards

Looked like a fantastic trip in erm 'challenging' weather conditions.

Saw north through lancaster (with what seemed to be halkf the population of north Lancs), was the fastest I have ever seen something go through northbound (for reasons that someone can no doubt explain the norm is slow north and fast south!).

Then managed to extract myself from the pub to view south through Horton again at a good speed - we were the only ones on the station in the freezing wind so the whistle wasa nice touch!

    Credit to all!

I have a shot here at Bolton at 08:20am. Just as it rolled into the platform, a dmu entered my platform and completely masked any chance of a shot until it had passed and the locos had rolled to a halt!! How often does that happen? (All too frequently, with my luck)

thanks for the link to the guardian story 'in-praise-of-settle-carlisle-line' by Michael Portillo, unlikely supporter.

Michael Portillo will be on BBC2 tonight and the next few nights visiting railways, see:-

from 'George Bradshaw's Victorian Railway Guidebook'. I saw a series with an actor following the same book, I think it was the garrows law bloke who also appears in cranford which features the Foxfield railway at the moment. slightly off topic but refers to link in this thread.
