esle where on this forum there has been mension of Bittern being based at Southall, possibly in the care of the group who look after 34067 , but what happens when maintanance is needed does she go to crewe or carnforth ? or back to ropley, reading further i hear that in its place 2 newly restored engines might be coming down, i would take it that these are most likily 6100 and 70000 , whilst the fitters at ropley would welcome a nice simple 7mt to play with i should imagine that a scot being 3 cyclinder beast would have some asking where the cutting gear was, a simple "conversion" to 2 cyclinders what other engines in the JH stable are likily to be the engines involved
when i first read about the move of 60019 to Southall i was agasted because i thought that it meant that the former FCC people would have custody of her, and given all the publicity of their last 2 charges would not be in the interests of the safe keeping of the engine and could be a very unwise decision by the owner , which in the full ness of time could be one to be regretted

Its so cold even the capital letters and full stops are getting frrozen out!

Not sure how we are supposed to understand posts like this which show only a vague resemblance to the english language!

Here's another way of looking at things

Given that a lot of 19's work is Steam Dreams at the moment every trip entails a move from Ropley which equals ££££ cost for the TOC . whereas based at Southall with the Green train , money saving . Tangmere has a London based crew and presumably the resources of WCRC as well which may well be the extra factor in 19 going to Southall . We could deduce the same for 6100 and 70000 as well and presumably 34046

That's what I really love about this forum - people with no intelligent point to make deciding to take the pee out of those who are less able or gifted than they suppose themselves to be. For the record Martin put a lot of time and effort into the early days of the MHR and is passionate about steam locos. Just because he expresses himself in a different way to others should not make him or his posts a point for comment about grammatical content, especially by those whose only role in steam preservation is to sit in an armchair and criticise.

You better check your own post matey.

Is it confirmed that 60019 is going to Southall and "two newly overhauled locos" heading to the Mid-Hants?

Martin's post suggests this information is in posts on other threads but I can't see it in the 70000 at Crewe thread? Have I missed something or is this "external" information being posted for the first time here?

    I assume this means.

"Mr Butler, regarding 60019 on the move, I do not know what the move has got to do with you and why you are against it. Who are the former FCC people? I believe these are empty words from one with an empty profile.
    fish7373"

We all make spelling and grammatical errors when we write. My own recent inadvertent implication that the human species was becoming extra handed is still causing amusement to some. However, I do not believe that it is elitist or patronising to attempt to write clearly, concisely and correctly.

Makes sense for 70000 (Hosking owned) and 46100 ( Hosking controlled via the trust) to be somewhere where he has a presumed good relationship, he must be happy with how 60019 and the 9F are looked after. They have improved facilities on the MHR and mainline access together with a proven engineering track record.

Southall will presumably be the "running shed" for Bittern, not a permanent home.

Mr Hosking must have a good appreciation of where in the UK there is work for his fleet. Sounds sensible.

OK so i might not be able to use the queens english very well, i know ,my limitations, what in hell gives those of you the right to make fun out of me?
all it does is to show you up.

where the owner decides to base his engines is his right, i am not against it being based anywhere that has the resources to look after it properly, but what when it needs attension , where does it go to , i can see the reasoning as to why it makes sense to base engines in the london area, but does southall WCRC have the heavy engineering capability It was this that i am questioning

And as for the empty profile slur, what did you do to help preservation this week end? i spent it cleaning down cl37 axle boxes ready for welding i help out at my local centre every sunday to help to overhaul a set of bogies for the spar valley railway based loco

Martin: Dont get upset about comments about your English useage. Do the best you can, no-one can ask you to do more.

As far as "Bittern" being based at Southall, we need to wait and see what actually transpires. There is a World of difference between running maintenance and serious overhaul work, at this moment in time we simply dont know (and have no need to know) what the arrangements are re Southall and Ropley respectively.

for those taking the **** out of others pack it in. this is why railway enthusiasts get a bad press when normals think we're a bunch of nerdy perfection obssessed geeks. just give it a rest. and to be fair its a form of bullying so if thats how you want people to think of you then your doing a great job!

This is not the first time that I have heard mention that 60019 might be moving to Southall. Different sources have made it sound like a temporary arrangement for 6 - 12 months when (it is hoped) the loco will be busy on the mainline. Let's wait and see. It's not exactly an ideal loco for the MHR. The huge tender makes running tender-first rather awkward, and buck-eye coupler makes running-round more fraught than with other locos. Plus all the usual costs of running a class 8 loco when a class 4 or 5 would be sufficient.

The hint that 6100 might spend some time at Ropley is very interesting. Nellie and Royal Scot are close cousins, and I for one would love to see them working side-by-side.

    Quite!

I do not believe that the failure of some forum members to use punctuation or capital letters is due to an inability.

Except that some of us are not as adept as others at putting our thoughts into printed words. Time maybe to stop and think about what others are trying to convey and take time out from our instant world and read and think about what other people are trying to say. Instead of putting people down for their inability to put across their thoughts in easily understandable 'sound bytes' that don't take much reading or understanding maybe we should be more understanding. As the saying goes patience is a virtue.
If you don't understand what a poster is trying to say, just ask him to explain his thoughts in a PM.
And yes I do believe that you are being patronising towards those of us in the railway heritage industry who have equally valid points of view but find it difficult to articulate their ideas.
When the day arrives that the forum rules state that you must express your views in perfectly grammatical terms with perfect punctuation, will be the day the forum dies.
