Well I don't see why the mainline boys should have all the fun... So what's your nominations for the industrial loco of the decade?

Some of the criteria to think about are: reliability, efficiency, time in service, authenticity, presentation - open to more suggestions but it doesn't have to all be about noise/clag.

Perhaps we could add this to the ARISE awards ceremony that will be held at the Foxfield Gala... just like last year's?

The Furness Railway Trust's 'Cumbria' - she has done many thousand miles on the L&HR and is now getting out and about on other preserved lines. We were reallly impressed with her at Wallingford over Christmas.

Prossibly the most widely seen and travelled behind industrial steam loco ever?

Got to be Hunslet 1873 'Jessie', forerunner of the Austerities, but better looking! Has been a reliable (recent 'off' day notwithstanding!) well restored, well presented loco, a real credit to its owner. Its has been to places that few industrials have ventured (Crewe Works open days, visit to the Netherlands etc) and even its role as Thomas over the last few years has been a fine display of its reliability and usefullness. A top machine all round.

Robert Heath No.6. Unassuming, hard working, been a fair few places and lovely to work with. Makes a cracking noise too - but also has a fantastic pedigree.

63395, super engine (and before anyone objects just as relevant in this section as some of the daft nominations for the main line loco of the decade!)

May I add LH&JC No.29 to that list? And Fonmon on the Spa Valley.

It is in the industerial livery it carried whilst working unfitted coal trains for the last years of its working life! It looks just as at home on a rake of 16T minerals as any austerity. Remember, it never was fitted in BR days.

But that doesn't make it an industrial any more than a Bagnall which performed on a site's workers trains is a passenger loco! Otherwise we could add 8Fs, WDs, etc, etc!

Have to admit, the Q6 is quite something though!

Completely biased, but I'd have to put in an honourary mention for Alfred and Judy (still seeing use in the area-ish for which they were built, at the centre of the 'Pit to Port' project, and great fun as well!), and Devonport Dockyard No.19 (an entertaining bit of kit to fire, from the go's I had on it).

honourary mention for Gwili's 0-40ST Olwen, has steamed every year since 1986 and more recently in the last decade has worked at the GCR, Bluebell, Llangollen and STEAM as well in it's alter ego as Percy (so no points for livery then!).

Was impressed with Jessie when it came to us, so that would also get my vote, a well restored engine.
