Apparently so, according to one article i have read the certification inspector has requested to look at the foundation ring rivets of the firebox.

Andy Netherwood stated in a recent MHR News article that they would require some attention if my memory serves me right.

Also the NRM have stated that Nellie still has a mainline future, because it has to fulfill the conditions laid down in the Heritage Lottery Fund Grant.

I have no complaint with posts that are written with a little care and thought even if the grammar is unconventional. I have no desire to be thought of as being patronising towards those who try. However, I have a problem with those who cannot be bothered to write anything clearly. If I were as sensitive as some of the wilting flowers on Nat. Pres. I would be complaining that some were discriminating in their use of language that was hard for old codgers such as me to understand. As to your last point, I am sure that you realise that I have suggested no such thing. However, the forum is just as likely to founder if many posts are gibberish.

how can you tell if someone is unable to spell correctly or is just being lazy? unless you know the reason for the person writing the way they do how can anyone else criticise

OK guys lets just back off this spelling and punctuation thing, it's all be aired before and thrashed to death.
Spelling should not be a problem as there is a spell checker available on this new version forum, let us all use it if we are not sure.
When it comes to grammar and puctuation, maybe we should blame the education system that seems to be letting down so many youngsters these days, even some of the 40% plus going to university appear to be lacking in this aspect of the English language.

Exactly. We aren't here as professors of the English language, All any of us can do is express our thoughts about our passion the best way we can.
Maybe if some of the more erudite among us were to come off their high horses and be a little more understanding of those that didn't have the benefit of their education, but share their passion for our hobby, pastime or even full time job but find it difficult to put it in to written words what they think, then maybe NatPres would be a better place.
Sorry if my Grammar, spelling or punctuation isn't perfect, but that's the way it is.

Personally I like to think that the poster is dyslexic and I have great respect for them for even attempting to put something in writing. Many sufferers of dyslexia are unfortunately too frightened or ashamed to even attempt to put their thoughts in writing. Please give these people the benefit of the doubt.

I hope members didn't think I was having a pop at Martin, I most certainly wasn't. None of us are perfect, I know I'm not. If a person TRIES, everybody should respect that effort. Nat.Pres. has a bad reputation for this "sniping" type of thing.

Kevin, as I think should be clear by now, I have no problem with people who TRY to write clearly and as Ralph has pointed out the forum incorporates a spell checker. I do not like posts written without capital letters or punctuation. I do not believe this is due to inability but laziness.

I think there is something of a cultural difference between many of my generation and younger people. I was brought up to work hard and if I did not succeed to "try, try and try again." Today, it seems to me that many younger people believe that if they are unable to do something, it is the fault of someone else. Lest I be accused again of something I do not believe, I emphasise that I am generalising. I readily acknowledge that there are large numbers of young people who work hard and achieve much.

Christ dude get down off that stool, yeah okay sometimes it can be annoying when someone doesn't use capital letters or full stops, but is that any reason to have a rant, jezz you got the gist of what he was saying so whats the problem. And sorry that last bit is a load of bo***cks mate, seems like another one that is tarnishing us younger ones with the same brush. i suspect you think we all go round with baseball caps on and mug old ladies???? Just seems on this forum a lot of people like to get up on a stall and beleive they are always correct or just want to start arguements cos they dont get along with certain members. Not that hard for us all to just get along and enjoy our hobby is it, its like a friggin playground in here!

Back to Bittern, it does make sense to get it up in London from an operationals point of view, i mean it cant be cheap getting it from Ropley to London and back each time it has to do a tour. Be good to see Britainia down at the MHR though if that is to be believed :)

    cheers matt :)

If it means Steam Dreams can keep their fares competitive then I am all for Bittern being based at Southall , and if Britannia is at the MHR then we will hopefully see her on the Great Eastern . Royal Scot from Euston ?

..and whose problem is that? Surely what you like and don't like is your problem, no-one else's.
