For what they are worth my choices are as follows:

No.49 - perfect livery, fantastic performances on coal trains at Tanfield and high profile visits to the NRM and Weardale. It even went along the ECML so can it go in the mainline list as well?

Hawarden - Some great charters including Workington, always great thrash and the only working industrial with Wasp Stripes throughout the decade?

Robert Heath - Looks great, sounds great and has visited many lines.

Jessie - Well has to be the most significant industrial restoration of the decade. From rusting park play thing to a fantastic machine. When seen in action you can see why Riddles selected the Hunslet design over the LMS 3F! So nice to see her back in original condition again as I was worried she might end up as another Linda or Maureen.

Whiston....well only beacuse it always looks lovely in grubby Bold Colliery green!

    Cheers,

May I ask when all the contenders will be placed into a poll?

I will have a look at this tonight and see how it will works but I believe that you can only put 10 options in a poll?

Hi, my chose would be Mardy Peckett 2150 for the following reasons : 1, rebulit at the start or the decade after waiting for more than a decade to be restored, 2, seeing it romp up the bank at foxfield was a sight to behold, 3, being rebuilt for a second time after it's 'gauge glass incident'. 4, now back in full health ready for the next decade.
it would be great if it could visit foxfield again , or even better perhaps a visit to tanfield ?

"Jessie" gets my vote, for loco of the year; not many engines (industrial or mainline) can boast having a "GB" sticker on the buffer-beam! Last week notwithstanding, its always a reliable performer, and always seems to be immaculate - very impressive.

686 "The Lady Armadale" must surely have an honourable mention, for being one of the most well-travelled locos this decade! (Although "Jessie" may be a contender to that throne). Now that the SVR have finished DOWT events, will it go back into Manchester Ship Canal livery, or stay blue for hire work? Either way, it must be one of a very small minority of industrial locos (possibly unique?) to have run on Network Rail; admittedly cold, but still an achievement! I believe there's a video of it on Youtube somewhere, getting tripped from a yard near Didcot into the railway centre, being dragged by a 66.

"Cumbria" is another loco that deserves a mention, having impressed both at home and 'on tour'.

Finally as Matt said, "Olwen" at the Gwili is a loco that must deserve the title, not only for its performances as "Percy The Small Engine", but also singlehandedly working this months 'Santa Specials' unaided. It put in some spectacular performances, and has been in operation every year since 1986. Check out this video, to see it slogging up the gradient in the snow; http://www.youtube.com/user/37425beast#p/a/u/1/D4QzfuAlEFU.

Imagine that blasting up Foxfield Bank....

Bagnall Devonport Dockyard no. 19 has my vote too. Has been great having her at Blaenavon, great fun, great performer, great noise and more reliable than all those tin boxes we have!

I am with Alex, 19 has been an amazing machine, and is capable of anything we throw at it! A reliable performer and has proved the point that there is nothing wrong with a 4 wheeler as many of our members had something against them. Thanks to Bodmin for the loan which has now been extended until at least October 2010.

Have a soft spot for this loco as it was probably the first one I ever worked on in preservation, soon after it arrived at Bodmin (First time!)

I think 812 is quite a good choice!! She is an Industral of sorts; she been in service for most of the decade in question; succesfully helping the Severn Valley Railway with their services after a spate of Boiler failures (after she been declared to small for use!); she been a roving ambasider for her owners acorss the country; been relaible; poplaur; etc.; etc.

If she gets discounted, I vote would be on any thing build by Andrew Barclay casue I like those engines....
