Hello I was a support crew member when 44767 went to Fishguard was it really 16 years ago. 80079 from the Seven Valley was the other loco it went to Milford Haven & should have gone to Pembroke but stuck on the bank & 44767 had to push it to Tenby. I remember being on the footplate when we made a storming run up the bank out of Swansea happy days.It will be nice to see 44767 in steam again regards John Lummas

Long may Steam Railway and the GCR have strong links if it means we can enjoy locos like Oliver Cromwell and the O4 . Just as long as George is back on the Moors in time for me to see it at the Spring Gala !

Most people with an interest in steam have, at the very least, an affinity to a particular line even if its just there local one. So long as the writing remains objective, it can actually lead to better and more accurate stories - nowt wrong with that.

Not denying that but I still don't see why you have raised this in a thread about 44767 which has little (other than a projected hire) to do with the GCR and as far as I know nothing (other than a news article) to do with Steam Railway mag!

Am I supposed to conclude that you have an axe to grind?

In all fairness to Steam Railway and the GCR there has been a bias in the past however that has definatly appeared to have levelled out to some extent.

I remember that trip. If the old grey cells are working correctly, 80079 lost its footing in Narberth tunnel and just couldn't get any grip. After a couple of attempts to back out and have another go, 44767 came to the rescue. We didn't get any further down the branch than Tenby. The locos were watered there and then we went back to the main line and the black five took us to Fishguard.

An earlier question asked how Steam Railway Mag would know about the plans for 44767 to visit GCR for "running in".

All I did was point out the fact that there are two employees of the publisher of SR that are active volunteers at GCR!

Having that section of line passed for 60mph for testing purposes is clearly the reason for 44767 and indeed others to have visited/ to visit. When your Preserved Railway is a double track main line, rather than a branch or secondary line; which is what ALL other Preserved Railways are. It is easy to corner the market.

Anyway, I knew that 44767 was due to go to GCR several months ago. Ian Storey told me by email. I chose not to disclose what I assumed to be confidential information.

    Hi

The reason 80079 stalled and could not restart was that the civil engineers had put a 5 mph restriction on in Narberth tunnel it was apparently an impossible task from the start.

    Cheers Dave

Cool can't wait to see it in action. Is 44767 fully lined out yet or is that being done at Loughborough.

44767 will be admitted to the shed for a repaint when the repaint of 47406 has been completed.

Good to hear that she is nearly ready to run again.
But what on earth was going on in the trailer on the previous page where she was running without a tender and pusing some loco chassis around?

    Cheers

Cheers Anthony, I guess it would have been a bit precarious standing up on the footplate with no tender behind.
