    Hi
Can anyone confirm if and what mk 1 coach is due to leave the Llangollen shortly to East Anglia. Possibly 4472?
    Cheers
    Steve

It's the unrestored suburban coach ,which came from the Midland Railway Centre. One of the Mk. 1 CK's or SK's is also off down south for static use.

Cheers Bob. Should be 48004 then. It's going to the same place the ex Bluebell SK 24458 went to, although I have no idea what the plans for these two are.

I'm not sure about that Chris? The ex Bluebell would need a lot of work, I don't know the condition of the Llangollen carriage. I haven't figured out what this place is yet at FEN DRAYTON. Bannold, Capability Barns, Huntingdon Road. CB24 4SD. Apparently a supplier of hard landscaping materials!

I live nearby and the only railway related thing nearby is the St-Ives to Cambridge Mis-guided bus. Capability barns is a pretty big supplier in the area.

I can't figure out why these coaches would go here. Possibilities, cosmetically restored & displayed for their own purposes or maybe for another customer in a similar role. I don't think they'll ever run again.

Well if they do run the one SK from the Bluebell needs the asbestos behind the seats and heaters looking at. I am suprised it was allowed to move contaminated as it is.

Virtually every Mk 1 has asbestos in it, I'd be willing to bet that the number that have been professinally stripped is minimal Most will still be running around with it in place for years to come and are perfectly safe. It only becomes a problemn once disturbed. In the coach was sealed up and had all its windows intact it was probabably OK. I remember many years ago there were a number of early Mk 1 TSOs of early build that had exposed blue asbestos in them, and when their windows were broken by vandals birds got in and started to use the asbsstos to make nests!

As I've said before, I believe that the Heritage Railway movement is exempt from regualtions that prevent re-sale of vehicles that contain asbestos so the Bluebell would seem to have done nothing wrong in selling that coach.

That's correct. Exemption Certificate No.2 to The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 Exempts the supply of rail vehicles containing amphibole asbestos to museums and to minor and heritage railways. When I recently moved a loco that was thought to have asbestos lagging under the cladding (it turned out it didn't) the only comment from HMRI was to the effect of 'make sure that the asbestos doesn't blow out all over the M1.'
