I remembered my two other dream projects, so my ultimate list is:

Meon Valley Railway with MHR junction at Alton
    Lynton and Barnstaple
    Somerset and Dorest
Chatenden and Upnor, with a museum looking at narrow gauge and military railways in England at one end
The St Ives Branch as a heritage railway

    So there..

I was going to make the same request as Bob, with a new order of Dukedogs, 2251s, Churchward Moguls and Manors along with some Small Prairies and maybe the odd Standard 4 in BR Green.

However think you've changed my dream now! Just need to build a viduct don't you ? :D

How about Hereford - Ross-on-Wye - Gloucester (with Moguls, Manors, Prairies, Granges, Heymks...)

Stratford-on-Avon to Honeybourne, Broadway and a new mainline junction just north of Cheltenham. Double tracked and fitted out for 100 m.p.h running, including for any 7P or 8P steamer whose owner wishes to try (should be feasible northbound once on top of the Cotswold escarpment). Privatised TOCs to be granted access and a limited number of paths on payment of the appropriate chunky fees.

Actually I don't think that is beyond the realms of possibility, whereas my wine and dine scenario is (shame!).

Well it could be done of sorts... rebuild Butts box, rebuild the embankent down to the A31 (about half a mile from Butts) and build a station with at the end... (Fantasy Warning) get Hampshire conncil to donate the reamins of Gosport station and place the ex-Bricklayers Arms turntable at here... oh and electrify the mile and a half to Alton and get the 2BIL and 4Cor on special services...

To make my contribution to the thread I began:

    Callander-Crianlarich
    Matlock-Buxton
The Hope Valley line (probably from Grindleford to Edale or Chinley but certainly incorporating the most scenic Grindleford-Hathersage section, and single track rather than double)

Locomotive power would have to include an S15 and a Crab (regardless of the railway in question) as well as a foreign loco or two.

As far as line undecided but a replica of Lions sister 'Tiger' would be on my wish list.

Re-instate the Newport Pagnell to Wolverton branch.
Would require demolishing large sections of some of the rather less desirable estates of Milton Keynes.

    Win-win situation :)

Cwm Prysor viaduct is still there (might need a quick repoint!) but there would need to be a small (!) deviation around Llyn Celyn

  13. The Luton-Dunstable idea is certainly pure fantasy ;-)

Minehead to Taunton with a few Prairie tanks, a couple of Manors, a Mogul, perhaps a SR Pacific .................Oh hang on a minute!

Joking aside the Meon Valley would be interesting to run.

Funnily enough I went for a drive around the area on Christmas morning (I was bored!), and noticed the concrete plinths for the piers of West Meon viaduct in the undergrowth. I wonder how much that would cost to re-build...!

The Whitby-Scarbough line, fantastic scenary, long run, steep gradients for locos to really get their teeth into, need I say more? Locos would be a collection of NER, LNER and BR standards with the odd diesel, black 5 and Fairburn tank. It'll never happen mind but a man can dream

I wrote to the council about re-opening the Meon Valley Railway, and they were most certainly completely not against the idea! Which was positive...just couldn't find anyone to help me :(

The biggest issue with the Meon Valley is really the A31 cutting the formation at Alton (that is to say bridging the gap) and then the missing viaduct at West Meon, apart from that and some building on the formation at Farringdon and the odd cutting filled in/bridge removed the lfomation is well preserved... I think I'm right is saying only West Meon and Wickham stations have been demolished, however the line form West Meon to Alton (the bit that could join the MHR) is really a multi million pound problem and unlikely ever to recoup any investment and the line from Knowle Jct to West Meon wouldn't cut it as a commuter line and is too close to the MHR to be a tourist line.

Alas I think apart from a spur off the MHR line at Butts and the formation to Alton we are unlikely to seen standard guage rails on the Meon Valley line again.

That what I'm referring to. Just build viaduct along the trackbed beneath the water and we're away...!
