Why have "grown men"? got to be so childish on here? It's like kids at an infants' school "I know something you don't know & I am not telling you, nah, nah, nah". It's only steam locos NOT the official secrets act or MI5. You will not be shot as a spy. It's not only this topic, it happens all the time on here too often.

I suspect it's not a case of ' i know something i wont tell', more a case of 'if i say what i know i'll be i trouble with the boss'

If you want to find out I guess ride on the train, or go see it.

My bet's on a water bowser / pump inside the brake vehicle with a specially fastened down fire hose running into the tender through the gangway doors.

I was referring to whoever made the directive, not necessarily any particular poster, saying this, why do people "in the know" have to wind others up on here.

I will probably go & see it (can't afford £200 for one way steam + travel to & from London), the point I am making is why is it so hush, hush beforehand.

Where exactly is £200 quoted apart from the Beano ? and even that was for 1st class/dining reading the article, i'd wait for the official line from Vintage first.

One of the best posts I have ever seen here. Absolutely spot on so far as I am concerned.

    Thank you for posting it.

Oh do read post #43 again, kentyeti & buseng.
I'd say saltydog needs to remain on good terms with the Tyseley team more than he needs to satisfy forum readers.
And who actually needs to know what the watering arrangement will be? Just the guys who approve it, and those who operate it, surely. I'm quite happy to have my appetite whetted by an insider, and then wait and see.

No harm in keeping a secret. Saltydog has posted some good stuff on forum, so no need to point a finger, I'm just looking forward to the bristo;ian, however its watered. Reminds me of the recent Christmas Bristolian which used the through road at Reading non stop but did stop for water on the way. Lets hope this one can keep the main line all the way. Is that actually possible with all the HSTs lining up; hopefully they've found a gap !!!

Please read my response, #45. I not just on about this particular topic, it happens all the time on here. People in the know keeping secrets & then winding others up. As I said before, it is only steam locos, nothing of national secrecy. As an aside, this is the attitude of a loco owner/rep.

I suspect a mix of slow and fast line running and maybe a bit of running at lower speed would be needed as well as stretches in the 70's to avoid coming up against a red and even then it's not guarenteed, running non stop certainly aids pathing but it still has to fit into some tight slots in places.

    Err - says post deleted?

As far as I'm concerned, owners and support teams can reveal as much or as little as they want. It's their loco. money and sweat after all. Often there will be sound commercial reasons for not revealing information, even if it is only to tempt more folk onto a particular train. Of course, in some cases it could have the opposite effect.

Buseng has a point in some cases about people saying they have gen and then not telling anyone (some people on Diesel forums seem the most persistent offenders of this) however in Saltydog's case, i doubt he would be daft enough to jepordise his position at Tyseley by revealing what appears to be a closely guarded secret for now.

As for the owners rep quote, it appears he realised the post didn't come across quite as intended and has corrected it, what's the prob ?, Promoters have only revealed plans for so far into 2010 currently, who knows what the rest of the year holds ?.

Geez guys!! It really is like kids in the playground here!! Discussion has gone right out of the window!!!

Remember this is a forum and not an opportunity to post rubbish about other people! A way of finding out about our favourite heritage lines and things past and present in the Steam, Electric or Diesel world!!! Get a grip all!!! We can all agree to disagree... But whether right or wrong; i am sure the slanderous comments can stay on the wayside!!

Gentlemen, please let's get back on topic.
All my posts on this thread have been with the intention of fostering discussion about how the 'Non Stop Bristolian' would cope with the watering question.
All I have tried to do is egg on those who have given serious thought to this question to maybe come up with the answer before the train runs.
And some of the answers have been very interesting and some hilarious.
David1984 is correct in saying that I'm restricted in what I can say on a public forum, and Buseng is quite correct in saying that I wont get shot for spying(some of you may say more's the pity):biggrin1: however I do have a sense of confidentiality to TYS and it isn't my place to divulge operational matters.
That said, please carry on with the speculation and ideas, you have 12 weeks to come up with the soloution.

Tyseley has (I believe) a six wheeled Milk tanker which has been converted for use as an additioanl water carrier . Express Dairies livery of course . Now imagine how good that will look on the main line !
