I dunno about the National Network but this is taken from the Carriage Exhcange website:

    "BRAKEVAN FOR SALE
For Sale A LMSR 20ton Brakevan built in Derby 1924. In good condition. An early type with 2 verandas, through vacuum piped and newly painted. It has the original spoked wheels and LMS buffers. Quite rare. See http://www.ws.vintagecarriagestrust.org/ws/WagonInfo.asp?Ref=3849 Contact Alex brookrat@hotmail.co.uk or call 07834505828"

I don't really follow the main network much these days but there are a lot of BR Sharks still scattered about. Whether these are all stored I don't know. As SagginDragon said DBS would be the best people to contact regarding these.
The two at Hoveton & Wroxham Station are LMS 730093 & BR 954420
South East of Manea Station in a disused siding is a SR 55945
MOD Marchwood did have BR 953605 but this was on a recent tender and was missing from here on my last visit. Probably scrapped?
Neville Hill TMD has the u/f of BR 952647
Mike Darnall at Reliance Ind Estate still has BR 954726
    Ripple Lane Yard has four, 2 x LMS 731127 & 732433, 2x BR 954794 & 954966
Near Ancaster station alonside line is/was a derelict BR 952445
Wolverton Works still use two BR 951496 & 954990
    LH Group SR 56299
A few others but no confirmation they still exist.
    Barrow Docks BR 954550
Blyth Cambois BR 954510 (site cleared I think?)
    Shotton BR 955172
    Newport East Usk BR 955196

What is 953605? I can't find reference to it anywhere.

I think you mean Wroxham - see post above. These are visible on Google Earth etc and are adjacent to a road - surprised no one has snapped them up.

I still look for the brakevan when a freight passes! Just can't get used to it at all.

This is a standard BR 20t Goods Brake Van. It was numbered 4809 by the MOD a long time ago.
One I forgot to add is the possibilty of 49020 still surviving at MOD Bicester. It's one of those built for the MOD to a SR Diagram I think. It hasn't been sighted for a long time though.

Thanks for submitting phots of the Wroxham brake vans, shame as they would be good on a preserved line like the mid- Norfolk or the North Norfolk railways.

I know some people who were considering trying to obtain them for a local railway but it would prove difficult to move them, even if they managed to acquire ownership. The line they are on is apparently no longer connected to the network and road access to that siding with a low loader would be challenging.

I have heard rumours since then that the guys at Whitwell & Reepham station are looking into getting them, but don't quote me on it!

Whittwell has tried but they belong to the factory or something there so we kinda hit a wall with that.

There was only one (LMS style but BR built) at Holyhead and it wasn't in the best of condition - fire damaged possibly? But this and the two ex-Palbrick barrier wagons have gone, I think to Nantmawr.

I'm not aware of another brake van at Holyhead.

I think we are fast approaching the time when if you want to restore a wagon, you need to trawl the sidings of heritage railways for abandoned projects. There is no shortage!

You have a point there Phil.

However what is sad is that some owners have the attitude that they would see it rot where it stood rather than let it be sold to another Railway and restored.

I know of a few Railways that have this problem, and none more so than so than at my own Railway with one particular vehicle . another two years or so and there will be nothing left to restore on this quite unique vehicle, very sad.

    Regards
    Chris

Agreed, there are a number of vehicles that haven't a hope of restoration with current location/ownership, but the proprietorial zeal with which some refuse to acknowledge this fact and refuse to consider disposing of the vehicles only sees their continued decline. I hasten to add I'm not specifically referring to my own railway here!
