    Ok - so if the C130 is too fast, what about one of those forest firefighting helicopters, and a very large funnel in the tender filler?

    Drill a couple of thousand holes in the coal space, and turn the whole tender into a funnel. Small problem of coal dust in the injectors but I'm sure that could be filtered out somehow!

    Well I am sure the crew could always clean each lump of coal before it goes into the tender.

    For a 120mile (one-way) leg, coal is not the problem. In fact it might be possible to trade some of the coal space in the tender for a bit more water.

    300mm to the foot seems a bit of an odd scale. Why not just do it full size at 304.8mm to 1 ft, or better still use a proper measurement system and do it to 12 inches to 1 foot!

    i wonder, there is one thing we have all overlooked has tys done a cut and shut job on two tenders and we now have super GWR tender , no water capicity problems, or coal problems,but dont try to go round any tight curves

    Stick a commonwealth bogie under each tender, and that't the curve problem sorted.

    As for the water. my guess is they have built a water wagon ala 6024. After all I think 6024's wagon was put together at TYS. Perhaps they are borrowing that one. Either way, I hope it's dressed up as a siphon G or brake or something.

    This is turning out to be a brilliant thread, into P12 now and no closer to solving the mystery; hope Saltydog is having a few laughs !! So far, milk tankers, oil tankers, parallel running, helicopter drops James Bond style, few extra tenders, beer barrels, keep them coming eh. I would tend to go with the second tender ida as its been done before but quite happy to wait and see. More to the point, is it really going to get through Reading on greens !!!! I challenge anyone to watch the train movements from the station overbridge and understand how the signalmen keep anything going. Most HST's have to queue to get into the station. Saving grace is that hopefully The Bristolian can use the centre road through the station and stay on the main .

    Not just giving me a few laughs but keeping a lot of other people at TYS entertained too.....and making us wonder about the opportunities we missed in making the watering a truly spectacular event....the idea of a C130 watering from the air really caught my imagination.
    As for timekeeping, I can only guess that given the amount of support from Network Rail and First Great Western this is probably going to be a Bristolian in the true sense of the word
    I wonder if the original sponsors of the bill in 1835 could have imagined the stir their vision would be creating 175 years later?
