As a matter of interest how many Heritage Railways own snowploughs, how many of these are in service and has anyone used one during the recent cold snap?

We have 1 at the eden valley, built on a V2 tender chassis, always thought it would be nice in mid-winter to have 2 and 2 locos tender to tender and do a photoshoot in the snow

The Bluebell does/did have one. It was converted into a gun, for the filming of Charlotte Gray and never back. I'm not too sure where it is parked up now.

There's a photo of it as part of a train somewhere, but I can't find it!

Yes I am an active volunteer
I own the NER Timber snowplough number 18 of 1909 normally resident at the NYMR.
It however is in works for major surgery at the moment, having a new hardwood underframe.
Also some work to the plough slope as well.
Maybe next winter it might be available.
In fact it did get a one line mention in this months Heritage Railway.
Apparently NWR were looking for a snowplough capable loco to clear the Esk Valley.
Somebody thought about the plough but it is away at the moment.
Its twin sister number 20 is at Beamish in long term store.
Not forgetting No 12 at NRM Shildon but thats only half timber.

The Bluebell one has been used to clear ice from the tunnel in the past, ( it was better than the previous method of a few of us going up by car and walking through the tunnel removing ice!) but the last I heard it was now considered to dangerous to try to clear the ice...
