cload over the whole of the UK, both days, but their is a chance of it breaking in the west, as long as we don't get much water I will be happy, ignoring the the type in you hand there.

Depends which weather forecasting outfit you look at now, one has unremitting cloud cover, one has sunny spells for both days.

    Luck of the draw....

I too had an enjoyable day. I decided it would be best to head back to Leeds last night rather than early this morning, but even then I still missed the alarm to get over to the Lancs for the charter... Never mind, maybe next time.

Anyway, having missed the charter I decided to stay until lunch and did a few shots around Burrs, Brooksbottom & Irwell Vale. Had a lovely day, many thanks to the guys at the ELR.

I've uploaded 3 shots from today, however I had to restrain from anymore due to our new upload policy, but they'll be placed on the winter DVD available at the end of Feb.

    Video shots available here

BR Black weekend on the ELR 23 January 2010

The common factor among the four main engines at this steam event was that they were all in BR black livery, and very fine they looked. The rare visitor was the Riddles WD 2-8-0 from the Worth Valley, whilst Ian Riley's second Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No 44871 was making its first gala appearance. The dank misty weather did no-one any favours, but it was a sound start to another steamy year in 2010.

Despite a rather overcast day, it all went pretty much to plan so thank you to everyone who came along and supported us today. More of the same tomorrow hopefully.

    Regards

Thanks to the East Lancs guys for a great day, especially the many freight runpasts in the gloom at Burrs with the WD, tremendous stuff. Good to meet fellow Nat.Pres. members Mark (Alberta45562),
Jeff (James Martin) and Mike30A out and about yesterday. With some excellent video and photos already posted, here's my video from Saturday.

Well done and thanks to all involved with the gala. Enjoyed the mini freight charter (thanks Nigel V) -- but couldn't cope with too may early mornings like that.

Did the passenger trains appear reasonably well patronised?

Rain and poor light stopped play today and I whimped out at lunchtime. I only hope the weather improved this afternoon, especially for those who travelled long distances to get there. ELR can reflect on a great job, well done. Hope passenger receipts are healthy!

Yesterday seemed very good on loadings. Today, the 1st two seemed quiet but the numbers on the WD hauled train looked healthy. May have improved as the day went on -I hope.

Trains were well loaded yesterday, especially considering it wasn't a very good day weather wise. Strange how it seemed dull and misty almost everywhere along the line exept Irwell Vale which seemed bright, even almost summy most times I passed.
Had an excellent day and got a few nice pics aswell as scoring the WD and 5 for haulage. Only gripe would be lack of water in the train toilets virtually from the start of the day.

Had a great day out yesterday and enjoyed the photoshoot in the mist & gloom at burrs immensely (same conditions as last year - added a little atmosphere i thought ;) - Big Thxs to Nigel v for organising it.
A few pictures just uploaded here - http://john-robinson.fotopic.net/c1807321.html
