State of the freight stock probaly has a lot to do with the weather and a lack of volunteers to paint them

Congrats to all at the GCR for yesterday's Gala, especially nice to see 44767 (a first for me) and 47406 in action.

Would anyone be able to identify the 37 behind Rothley carriage works? Wouldn't have thought it'd be hard to identify a loco painted bright yellow but there we go.

Sorry Lewis doesn't make sense. A fully fitted freight does not need a brake van at the rear. It is exactly the same as a passenger or parcels train with the brake vechicle not as the rear vehicle or a passenger with an xp van or two on the back as the GC has done with the CCT in the past. Only a train with unfitted wagons needs a brake vehicle at the rear.

Many thanks indeed for the recent photos and videos. Mouthwatering stuff.

And so far as paint peeling off from brake vans! Oh dear. But I am of the school who would love to see some filthy dirty steam locos etc running around, like they used to in the "old days"! So peeling paint would go down very nicely too.

But I do understand the pride those who work on locos etc must have in turning them out in pristine condition.

According to the Winter 2009 edition of 'Main Line', page 80, the yellow 37 is actually 37198. 37255 is indeed at the GCR, but it was at Quorn yesterday, rather than Rothley.
I thought the gala was excellent; I really enjoyed watching the near constant activity on the line, as well as riding up and down on the trains. Both TPO runpasts were impressive too!

The windcutter wagons appear a little more weather worn each time I see them. I thought they looked particularly good yesterday behind 78019.
I'm not sure if Black '5' 44767 was booked to haul the windcutters this weekend but that would have looked very good. <BJ>

Many thanks Bryan. I guess the icing on the cake was the superb weather, with top marks to the GC for such an intensive tt.

A superb day at the GCR yesterday, glorious weather and a train every 20 mins... cannot grumble. Well done to all involved.

A couple of pics, the rest are on my site:

It was absolutely marvellous. Fist of all, it was well "themed"- the locos all fitted together. Nothing was out of place, I suppose you could carp about Leander in LMS red, but it was the right shape and what a beast! Two freight workings were very impressive. In fact, there was so much going off I was never quite sure what would happen next. If I go to the next one I'll try to stay overnight, one day isn't enough.

Yes the windcutters are starting to look the part. Problem is too much rust and they will not be fit too runand too clean and don't look good!

Kent Yetti - the vehicles I was commenting about were the vanfits which have lost alot of paint from the doors and now look like bare wood but like you I would rather have weathered than pristine!
