    Hi folks;

Can anyone please bring me up to date on this loco?

The last I heard was that the tender was complete, it was a rolling chassis , was going to be out shopped in B R experimental blue and that the boiler return was iminent.

    Thank in anticipation.

    Regards
    Chris

http://www.6023.co.uk/ is the link to the 6023 website although it's difficult to see the date of the last update. Also, http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/ is worth keeping an eye on from time to time.
She's getting pretty close now, probably not much more than 12 - 14 months away, watch the above websites. She's under restoration in the part of the new works that is usually accessible to the public, so under normal circumstances, you can view progress personally if you like.

I for one am looking forward to the May Bank Holiday, when hopefully 6023 will be displayed in her Blue Finery.
Yes I know I'm a GWR heretic but I'd also love to see a Black Hall on the mainline.

It'll probably still be in a lot of bits during May, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much just yet. Hopefully the engine will steam some time later in the year.

As it stands the boiler still has a few jobs to be done, you're probably looking at a hydraulic at the end of the month. On the engine, the cylinder cocks and lubricating pipework need finishing off, as does the ashpan, which hopefully will be complete before the boiler's ticket is up.

This is just my attempt to become a member of Pedants Corner, but from my vague recollection of British history there never was a King Edward 11 but there was a King Edward II.:)

Even though I'm a Southern fanatic, I'm looking forward to seeing this when its finally finished. It'll be interesting to see the completed blue livery with 'cycling lion' crest on a GWR locomotive in the flesh, rather than in photographs!

From the few colour pics I've seen, I don't think they look too bad in blue, it sits quite nicely with the brightwork.

The apple green Castles on the other hand....

I think KE11 will look stunning in blue. Just imagine how good it would look at the head of a set of carmine and cream coaches. It'll be authentic and all the major magazines will have it on the cover. There'll be plenty of time to repaint it into GWR green later.

If anyone ever does build an unrebuilt 'Merchant Navy' locomotive, I hope they paint that blue at some point. It suited those quite well, too.

Just thought you may like to know that the boiler has passed its hydraulic test today.

Blue looked pretty darn good on a rebuilt too, 35005 looked fabulous on the mainline a few years ago.

    That's fabulous news indeed!.
I've long-wanted this loco to steam, after hearing her on an old Argo Transacord LP back in the 70s, and then seeing her at Barry for the first time.
Hopefully, her restoration will now be on the finishing lap.
