Yes the good old step ladder could come in handy at these locations.

I believe that 78019 will be facing south. The first tender engine to be so at the Bluebell.

Well I expect she's already landed by now, but it adds some variety having a south-facing tender engine.

What a shame it's never been possible to buy the land needed to turn the Ardingly spur into a triangle. Then you could turn whatever you liked around, whenever you liked.

Or you could use the area where the spoil was dumped between the running line and the spur as a turntable, but it's going to be a picnic area.

They need something because when steam tours arrive at Sheffield Park the loco will need to be turned and as far as I can work out the nearest triangle/turning area would be quite a way away. Also any idea how much a adult members ticket will cost at the Branch Line Weekend.

Just got back from an excellent days' photting on Jon's Dukedog charter and saw 78019 in light steam at S.P. Most surprised to see that 78019 is actually facing SOUTH. Is this the first ender loco on the Bluebell to face south as normally only the Tank locos face south?

Yes I'm just uploading a couple of clips from the day on youtube then I'll put a link on here. Went to Sheffield Park shed early this morning and 9017, 42085, 80151 and 78019 were together. Never seen so much BR black on show at the Bluebell!:cool1:

78019 struggled with the 11.00am departure today, with 5 coaches. It slipped a number of times in the tunnel. The train was not heavily loaded and we arrived at Kingscote 20 minutes late(We left S.P 10 minutes late - no heating in the the brake).

The delay wasn't made up all day. I watched her depart SP with one small slip.

And from what we heard at yesterday's charter the Fairburn Tank is not in a very healthy condition. Sounds like she needs a new spring plus other mechanical problems, it goes into the works this week in the hope she might be able to steam next Saturday.

But on the bright side when I peeped in the works as I was leaving today, the boiler and smokebox for 178 have been dropped into the frames.

Derek Hayward has said that the Fairburn had her spring replaced today and it was part of the pre-arranged work to the loco.

I also now have my video of some of today's action at SP up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmdU5Wt7j34 photos will come tomorrow probably.

Great videos Matt and David. Are the nameplates staying off the Dukedog for a while or just that charter.
