Looking forward to this:- times now on UK steam info and showing about 4 hours at Didcot.Didcot's events calender is showing a non steam day, but open. So, will enjoy a nose around as I haven't been there for over 30 years.Just wondering if the locos are likely to be serviced "on shed" or whether they will turn on the triangle and take water/lay up in a spare platform? ( if my recall is correct that's what R.A Hall did on a Solihull -Didcot trip a few years ago, although that was more direct and via Oxford.)

No doubt they will be on Shed, usually they line up for a while/get serviced then go and turn.

5322 expected in steam at Didcot.

  11. Out to video this one. Anyone been up to Sapperton recently? Just wondered what the undergrowth s like over the tunnel mouth. I know it was cut right back 18 months or so ago, but that was a long while ago.

Was up at Sapperton for Tornado back in November - didn't go to the top of the tunnel, but those that did said it was just about OK undergrowth wise, but the sun didn't get high enough to get to the bottom of the cutting. A better bet is the public foot crossing just down from the tunnel

I have been told 5043 is being renamed "Barbury Castle" for this run.

Tornado passed Frampton Mansell on 7th November. The view from above the tunnel mouth is virtually all shadow in the foreground. There is still a lot of shadow, again in the foreground, at the foot crossing near the tunnel. <BJ>

You cannot get a decent shot from the foot crossing without being on the wrong side of the fence. Having witnessed all the people coming out of the bushes when Tornado visited I really hope the same isn't repeated. If a driver of a service train had reported what he must have seen that day then 60163 would have been going up the bank at caution and/or BTP would have been on the way. The actions of the irresponsible many on that occasion I'm afraid.
