Loco value - a difficult question?

From time to time you see locos advertised for sale, but almost never with a price. I know that this might be an incredibly difficult question to answer (in a how long is a piece of string type of a way) but how much is something like one of the former CFD class 20s worth? This is assuming condition is relatively complete but probably non-running and in need of a good overhaul and a fair amount of cosmetic attention.

I've a fair amount of experience as a Diesel engine fitter and with engineering so I understand that there is a lot of difference between individual cases

Does anybody have any relevant experience?

It is a difficult one, and ads always say to phone and ask, but understandably people get irritated if all you want to know is the price, why not just post the price?
