I'm pleased to say we have, this afternoon, successfully steamed our 2 ft gauge Fowler (No.13355 of 1912)

Ive just got back from a trip down the line and it runs very well, (Bit cold though with its colonial type cab in this weather!)

Barring any disasters it will be running, fully complete at our March Enthusiast Day on the 27th.

It has still got to be cosmetically finished but the photos give the impression of what an imposing loco it is!

That loooks fantastic. I do like the look of the Colonial NG locos with the spark arrester chimney and open cab. It's a lot bigger than I thought too. Looking forward to seeeing it next month.
By the way, what's happening with the Matheran loco? I assume it's not in working order as it hasn't run since it arrived at Statfold. Does it need some work doing to it or is it out of ticket?

The 'Gent' on the footplate would agree with you, but only if it is a Fowler traction engine.

Have no connect with statfold but have followed the Matheran loco and it has been withdraw from service for a full mechanical overhaul which will be done by the owners railworld. They have said that the boiler work will be done by statfold. All this information is all available on the loco's website. This has not been updated for some time at least 6-9 months. So you may see it in several apart around statfold in march but I would suggest that it will just see it looking in very sorry for itself in a siding.

It was supplied to a sugar plantation at Mount Edgecombe in South Africa.

It was brought back in 1978 when it worked on the Alford Valley Railway in Aberdeenshire.

It was then bought for the abortive Keilder Valley project and when that stallled we aquired the loco in October 2008.
