Just FYI, BTK 27001, a BR-built coach to an LMS design has moved to a new home at Wirksworth on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. The coach has been externally restored and is just awaiting a repaint. It needs a complete restoration internally which will be carried out on the railway by the LMSCA in time for the vehicle to be used in the Duffield extention opening train.

Sounds like an interesting vehicle. Is the "complete restoration" in the conventional sense or is there an interior requiring complete reconstruction after departmental use?

Are there any links to any images to illustrate?

Will try and get some images but I suspect it is more of a rebuild than refurbishment. It is currently scheduled for another LMS-design coach to arrive, along with two BR MkI coaches. The MkI coaches will only be on short term whilst the LMS ones are restored.

In terms of timescale, the opening is scheduled for April 2011. In the meantime, the railway is holding its first ever steam gala with "a very old steam locomotive" coming on loan for a couple of weeks. I suspect the MkI's will be used here.

My understanding is that this coach needs to have its interior more or less completely reconstructed. If it can be done in a year it will be an impressive result.

Thanks for the info and links for this coach - the LMSCA website has a good selection of interior and exterior images.

Good grief the weathers got to her again! I remember starting work with the LMSCA when I first joined Peak Rail over 10 years ago. My first job was underneath the bogies removing all the brake rigging, cleaning all the parts, painting them and refitting! I also helped with replacing some of the vac fittings. I still remember threading the 2" pipe, took some work! Glad to see she's going to be worked on again.

And you will be welcome to come and work on her again, (along with everyone else who fancies a bit of coach bashing), just as soon as 27162 is complete.

Have you put any work in on any of the other LMSCA coaches, Dave?

I've done little bits of some of the other LMSCA stock but got sidetracked onto the footplate. Unfortunately I run my own business and have very little time for any railways other than a quick visit here and there.

I also owned LMS 12 wheel SLF M378M for a while at the CVR until I got notice to quit when active work was ongoing with her restoration. I won't go into how that ended on here but it wasn't a happy ending!
