GWR No. 2807

Well done the Llan team and 2807 mid week team. Stunning effort to get the wheel sets off to SDR with such speed.

As of this morning the smokebox was held on by means of a few temporary bolts.

Note that the driving wheelsets are at the South Devon, and at Llangollen the boiler has been fitted into the frames to allow pipework to be completed and ash pan operation to be tested.

Thanks for the update; a good start to the New Year. I am looking forward to seeing 2807 in steam (understatement of the Decade!) and, if I can get to Llangollen to see it running before 2807 gets down to the Glos Warks Railway then I most certainly will.

 

The latest photo on the 2807 Photo website shows a complete set of very shiny re-tyred and profiled wheels at the SDR! Marvellous.

Indeed, I have been a supporter of the project since 1982 so I am looking forward to what 2010 holds rather more than I might otherwise have done!

Great to see 2807 sitting on driving wheels with nice thick tyres! One less thing to worry about. Excellent progress being made but time is ticking away and GWR 175 at Toddington beckons at the end of May. Well done to all the folks working on 2807 now; I wish I could still help out but who knows?!

A St Patricks Day to remember!

On Wed 17 Mar 2010, a fire was lit in 2807's boiler (at 1207 pm) for the first time since 1963. I received the e-mail late last night. There are some photos on the 2807 website (see previous post) but I'm only sorry I couldn't be there! More news to follow on the steam test etc as and when I get it but hopefully someone else will post it first!

 

Nice job! Will be nice if it is at Todddington when we turn up with the 53xx.

 

Great to see she is coming along nicely, hopefully wont be too long before we see her back hauling trains.

Lots of progress and photos, highlights are

10 March - passed hydraulic test.

17 March - first fire lit in boiler, and superheater elements delivered to Toddington.

23 March - steam fountain passed hydraulic test.

26 March - boiler up to full working pressure, 225psi.

29 March - completed tender transported to Llangollen.

30 March - boiler passed steam test.
