I cant comment about vocal efforts of other engines, but as an owners rep with 92203 for part of the weekend, all i will say is that the 9's were just playing with there 7 coach trains. Only on a couple of occasions did we showboat - the 9 is capable of taking the big valve from a standing start (on a dry rail) and boy, do they accelerate! Big pussy cats with hidden claws. . .
On another note, are there any other locos out there running today, as original as 03? everything on the loco is original BR (as a teaser, there are a couple of items stamped 92220...)

    As I suspected. Thanks Keith.

IMHO, I am very impressed with this years Souvenir Programme for the WSR gala. For £3 it gives a general description of the locomotives, stations and what to do and see at the gala. The timetable gives the allocation of locos and in which direction they face. One tiny discrepancy is the mention of the Duke running smokebox first out of Minehead on Thursday at 17:00. I'm sure that this is an error. Otherwise, well done to the WSR. <BJ>

Without wishing to start this one up again, how many of those who purchased the booklet actually wanted general descriptions of locomotives, stations, etc? And how many just wanted the rosters, and had to pay for the other info?

Remember it is not just enthusiasts that visit galas so the railway has to cater for all types of visitors. Whilst it provides the rosters ect for us enthusiasts I feel that the locomotive notes and station descriptions will certainly be beneficial to the other less knowledgeable visitors.

  7. I'd gladly send you just the rosters - at £5 a go :)

  8. Thank you f2g. I've always like the Bye Farm setting and was pleased with the subject which happened to steam by when the sun was shining.

I thought the gala programme was excellent, especially the info on which way the locos faced.
Had an enjoyable weekend lineside (even though I had a Saturday rover) and despite the miserable weather on Saturday. Must mention the wonderful staff at Crowcombe and Stogumber and their fine refreshments.
    Vid to follow shortly.

Why do you always put a dampner on things, like the SVR gala thread with 78019 being at a lot of railways recently and that you didnt want it there. Everyone has been putting positive feedback and then you put that, there is no need for it. I don't mind paying £3 for a colour programme with info on stations and locos, how to get to the gala etc rather than a fiver for a b&w wtt.

Absolutely! Well done to the gala team. I think the banking of trains from BL is a popular move. Once a common sight, like a lot of things from those days, if you dont revive it , it gets forgotten.

I was happy with the programme, a much better effort for the money than the Bluebell Railway 'Giants of Steam' £1 A4 sheet of paper horror. I also like to read up on the history of the locomotives involved to pass the time one I've read the working timetable and its too wet to take a peep at the locomotive. For one thing, I never knew 92212 was an ex-S&D locomotive. My only gripe with it was that a bit more care could have been taken over the prose, but that's relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. Well done to all concerned...

I was happy to pay £3 for the booklet with the loco rosters, it has the rosters for the whole 6 days which works out at 50p per day, these galas with all the guest engines and transportation costs and coal don't come cheap, they have to get the revenue in to pay for it all or there won't be any more galas for you to attend.

I had a very enjoyable day on Sunday, the weather was divine. 80104 looked and sounded fantastic all day! Both 9Fs seemed to conquer the inclines with ease, and the Duke was the best turned out loco I've ever seen! My efforts from 21/03 can be seen on my website by following the link. Many Thanks to all involved.

Very nice video. May I ask two questions - where was the first shot taken and what equipment do you use?

    Thanks
