A few shots from a lovely day, spoilt only by the wind at the viaduct

    Very nice shots Henry.
I don't mean to be accusatory at all - just asking. I have seen a few pictures of the Avon viaduct from various people know the line is open. I did this last year on a photo charter and my understanding was that the fields that gave access to this shot were private and required the organizer(s) to negotiate access. Is there now a public right of way that allows this shot? Just asking as I would like to do it myself.

Kind regards and thanks for posting the photos

The BKR is in Scotland. Scotland doesn't have public footpaths as such. The majority of the countryside is essentially free to be accessed by all provided you follow the common sense access guidelines:

The biggest problem with access at the moment is that the fields are full of new born lambs. I've been a few times recently and the lower fields have been free of lambs, but the upper one hasn't, hence I've done the low-level pics. At this early stage in their life, I wouldn't want to risk disturbing the lambs and potentially annoying the farmer. I can understand why you would need to gain permission if intending access by large numbers (such as on the charter), but there are rarely more than a few photters out on the BKR on any given day. If you knock on the famers door, he seems to be fine with access for small numbers.

The farmer Mr Brodie gave me permission as he was happy that his lambing had finished. He likes you to knock and make yourself known. He even tipped me off about missing out the wires that are in the shot when halfway up the hill.
