I stood at Horwich from 7-7.50 this morning and no sign of 45407. Off up towards Shap now.

My video at Stableford and Dutton failed to upload last night so I am trying again now.
Cannot thank Mark enough for the continued updates, without them standing in fields not knowing what was going on would have become very tedious. OK so we still had to stand but at least knowing makes it easier.
Coincidence that you were only a mile away at Mill Meece Frank, and then again beyond Crewe again only a couple of miles away.

At Dutton I found I was under one of the approaches to Liverpool Airport so the inevitable happened, the approaching sound of 70013 and 44871 drowned out by an Airbus..... so missed the first bit. (Expletive deleted) :tape2:

Anyway video is now uploaded etc..

GB3 passed Carnforth at 9.45 going exceedingly quick with whistle blowing all the way, well tyhere was a full line up of WCRC staff at the fence. No sign of light engine movements yet, only signs of one loco in steam in the yard.

If 45407 is on its way to Carnforth, then the Herculean efforts of the team at Ian Riley's works need to be acknowledged, and it is a tribute to them that overhauled engines work "straight out of the box". In pre-'68 days ex-works engines tended to be used on running-in turns to ensure everything was bedded in and adjusted properly, so it is perhaps a slight concern to Ian that 45407 will be straight in at the deep end.

Edit: Photograph seen of 45407 standing in steam at Buckley Wells complete with support coach, ready to. Paintwork apparently finished at 0300 this morning!

Congratulations to the team at Ian's works. Fantastic effort.

Thanks Bill. Great videos :). Yes, a very similar journey, although we went straight to the Lickey from Huckford, we didn't consider Ashchurch.

I'd like to echo No.7's comments earlier: Very enjoyable three days following the trains. Thank you to RTC and WCRC.

Well that was cutting it a bit fine, many chewed finger nails no doubt. Running in on a positioning move, no sweat.....

Update 5407 has arrived at Carnforth and is backing onto the front of 44871, if I get a departure time I'll post it.

Just out of interest, any one know why tomorrow's leg has such tardy timings? Outbound to Stranraer - about 85 miles according to Google, is timed at 5.5 hrs !! It must be like watching paint dry on the train? The return leg isn't much better either. Sevice trains are booked at around 2 hrs.

Single line operation in the main and the combined consequences of engineering works ( unless cancelled during my recent visit to Dampfspektakel ), steep gradients to challenge the best of any steam traction and the need to water 2 l.ocomotives en route; under the circumstances the timings compare well with any other charter that has operated over the route in my 'umble opinion.

70013 was going like a bat out of hell this morning over Scout Green!! Full congratulations must go to Ian Riley's team for turning out 45407 in such a short space of time. I, unfortunately, packed in half an hour after Ollie had gone past. Glad to know that they're on their way.
