Funny you should say that, I am sure I read somewhere during the early stages of restoration that 5043 was going to be an oil burner or maybe dual fuel!

This trespass problem, or potential problem is my only reservation about tomorrows runs. I'm afraid the 'Great Unwashed' may be out in force. Let's hope not.

I'll be at Leamington station as usual and Castle Lane today. Can't wait to see what all the fuss has been about!!! Should get a good look at whatever alterations have been made during the Leam stop, then get a nice shot of her accelerating away from the stop at Castle Lane. :photo:

Now it's public, can't you say what?
Might not be able to see it at Tilehurst later as my car is in for repair.

Thanks for that. I hope & pray 37516 doesn't hang around on the train all day tomorrow, only for stock movements to & from Paddington.

Don't own one, but might think about it the way garages are robbing us with petrol prices.

Actually it is neither the retail petroleum industry or indeed the oil companies ( much as I dislike them) robbing us on petrol prices, it is our own Government, without the duty and VAT the cost of a gallon would still only be around £1.50.

Yeah, but this threads long enough without political debates ! BUT they have to raise the money to pay out on all the things they do (benefits, expenses claims etc etc etc....)

Don't want to elaborate too much here as it will take this thread too much off topic, but just to say why doesn't the government stop taxing necessary commodities like fuel for all transport (people, food etc, you name it) but evil unnecessary unhealthy things like fags which should be at least £25 a packet, even booze which is a cause of a lot of problems. As I said I won't say anymore on the subject on this thread. Just seen it, my reply also applies to royals pete comment above.

Would need more than a bit of tax on fags to cover fuel tax, methinks. Back to BRISTOLIAN, looking forward to seeing EOME at Twyford shortly, but strangely, although she was an OOC engine for most of her days, I can't see from any photos I have, one of her actually hauling the BRISTOLIAN. Surely she must have had turns, perhaps I just missed her each time.

Yes, I had 5043 on the up Bristolian in summer 1958. An excellent run it was too - max 98mph at Little Somerford - but spoilt by a 4min signal stop at Royal Oak. Still arrived early at Padd though.

A comment on this run here, looks like June the 18th.

My trip on the Bristolian was on a different date, but here is a log of the 18 June 1958 run recorded by Brian Basterfield:
    http://locoperformance.tripod.com/edition10/5043pdn.htm
It seems that the stop at Royal Oak was not uncommon !

On the day I travelled, which was the only time I ever went on the Bristolian, I also travelled on the down Bristolian in the morning behind 4090, which also reached the high nineties at Dauntsey.

    Happy days !
