During the rebuilding programme the rebuilds all received cut down 5500 gallon tenders and the originals got 4500 gallon tenders - mostly of the cut down variety. I know there were exceptions to the rule but without checking I would say that 34092 could well have arrived with the tender she last had in BR service.

Well spotted that man. Some of the Barry Bulleids had no tender at all as they ended up at a steel works with the chassis used for carrying ingots or something. Not sure if 34081 ended up tenderless but in any case we made an offer for the 5500 gallons job attached to 34028 and Dai was more than happy to sell it to us so the loco ended up with the same capacity tender she was equipped with when new rather than the smaller capacity job she carried at withdrawal.

Nice to see 'our' engine coming along! I felt that it was a good idea to wait until 2011 when I first read the shareholder's letter.

nice to see southern locos have abandoned the idea of it being restored by october, i thought this would most likely mean work done on the loco is rushed and not done to the best it can be done

I have to say I really doubted that it would be done to a high standard by October.

I'm surprised how spread out the selected squadrons were. I always used to think that they were all based in the south east on 15 September 1940.

One question all is that I know a couple of Bulleids that run today are running with the original tender (Yes, Tender) wheelsets. Are there designs for the tender wheels and where are they cast?

Southern locomotives have had a number of tender wheels cast and wheelsets made up, i believe a number of owners have aquired complete sets from them.

Driver Walker, was Fred Walker, and was my first driver in 4 link when I moved to 9Elms in 1963. Fred, whose wife was a school teacher, was the proud owner of a 'robbers' Jaguar, BRG in colour if my memory serves me. By March 1967 Driver Walker would have been in link 3, or just possibly in link 2.

Just noticed a March update on the restoration of 35006, although I'm sure most of us Bulleid fans don't need reminding, having followed progress religiously over the last few years!

Probably on a back burner until 46115 is finished.

I too have been wondering what the state of play is with 34067. It's gone completely quiet. Does this mean that Ollie is still covering these trips?

I had about 78,000 miles behind Bulleids in the 1960s and very few runs where we were short of steam due to poor coal, even towards the end. Overall though my view has always been that the unconverteds were freerer running and better if neglected. You really need a driver or fireman's view from those days though. Dave 'Dropgate' would be a good start.

34067 is in an awful situation. I dont think it is my place to say how or why it has got into this situation, i would probably be shot down if i were to divulge all i know. (my sources are good, and know a lot about what they are talking about).

suffice to say, it has been abused like hell. It has had a boiler lift at carnforth. Not an easy undertaking. There will be lots of welding repairs and probably stays replaced, and maybe some platework renewal. This is likely to keep it out of service for the rest of the year.

New owners not happy about repair bill.

Its work will have to be covered, and not likely by 34046, as that is waiting for a new tender.

(70000 and 70013 is the cathedrals express double header later this year)

Let me guess LN850 - 34067's problem is that it wasn't restored at Ropley?

Oh come on, that's not necessary.

But it's not entirely unexpected that she wouldn't be in good condition, she's been on the mainline since 2002(?) and has run a huge amount of mileage.
