Mostly of interest to the scrapmen I would have thought, even though the list includes the first 58's to come up for sale.

The 56s & 58s (plus one day the 60s, 66s & 67s) may be of interest to many, but would they ever really earn their keep on a preserved line? I'm not being anti, just curious as I believe their weight bars them from some lines and their power would be under utilised on those where they could operate. Owners would no doubt recover some of their costs if they were permitted to run main line specials with them, but presumably only a few (if that) would get out to "stretch their legs".

Those 56's and 58's are probably heavily stripped. However, to be of much use on a heritage line, you'd need to come up with a way of fitting vacuum brakes. There's not many places with an air or dual braked rake.

What a waste of locos that are really only mid - life.

The GM stock is leased by DBS rather than owned outright. Apologies for being pedantic.

What I think is sad is that DB Schenker have just left these loco's to sit around in yards doing basically "Jack All" for several years & they ONLY now put up a tender list for the sale of locomotive if given a bit of TLC on them could & WOULD most probably work & live again!!

But I am suppose being a bit "Nitty Gritty" about the whole opinion but you see ALL where I am coming from!!

The theory being that if you leave them long enough for the elements and 'copper fairies' to do their stuff, then they are unlikely to be of use to potential business competition ...

Who else would like to see a pair of these 09's converted into master & slave configuration? :)

"13004" could both tell the story of hump shunting and also be able to earn its keep doing 25mph on diesel diagrams! One for the Heritage Shunters Trust perhaps?

    Well Maybe???

It would be interesting though if ANY of the stored shunters or Loco's actually found a home...

Or go with Chris Moxon's (M59137) Post....

Put them on a Heritage Line & Maybe one *MIGHT* make a recovery or two....

You Choose or Decide, Don't matter which!!

Personally though I would like to see one of DB Schenker's Scrap Loco's find a Home!!

I would say if anyone was looking for a loco I would say go with one of the Ex Thornaby Class 56's as they have been kept in BETTER condition - "Warm Store" been in the shed at Thornaby for years!!

But the one loco I would like to see is 56111 Again as it's in Loadhaul & I know given a bit of TLC I am sure WILL work again!!

Prices of scrap metals seem to be heading upwards again big time:
    http://www.letsrecycle.com/prices/metals/
.. so a rough estimate for a class 56, say 122 tons of steel scrap @ £175/ton, plus about 3 tons of copper @ £4000/ton = About £33,000. Less costs to the scrapmen of transport and cutting etc.
