I like to remain ambiguous! I'm the excessively tall one, often seen to be banging his head under his flat cap! Too tall for many industrials, but they're too much fun to avoid! But you're right. Middleton is full of flat caps!

Boliers for Dubs 4101 and Hunslet 3964 both passed hydraulic tests today. Loads to do yet but a milestone for both and Dubs in particular.

RSH Austerity 7169 past its steam test yesterday at 12.30 at the Flour Mill and was deliverd to Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway in the late afternoon followed by some test runs at the the railway in evening! A couple of little jobs to do this Saturday followed by some running in, and if all goes ok will be working its first passenger trains at Blaenavon on 2 & 3 May.

Great job, looks really well. Very fast overhaul by the Flour Mill engineers.

The PBR describes the livery as 'unusual' - is it a former livery worn by the loco and if so, what lining/numbers/naming will be applied? (I assume it would be an NCB livery?) I also noticed that the worksplate is attached to the cab footstep - I thought that most austerities had their plates on the bunker or cabside?

Please note - these are in no way criticisms (just in case someone thinks it!), I'm just curious to learn something new!

Don't forget the Manchester Ship Canal Gathering at Middleton in September . Two days of photocharters to support this unique event. Pm me for full details

32 "Gothenburg", 67 & 70 all in steam together for the first time in preservation . 14"St John" & 31 "Hamburg" both sadly out of ticket

I have heard it is going to be put into its industrial livery as Mech Navvies Ltd '71515'. photo here http://geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/p42640760.html

Ooh nice, what with that and the United Steel Co livery on AFRPS' machine, who needs a black pseudo J94? (my opinion, not necessarily reflected by my employer - usual disclaimer!)

The Loco will be sign written with 'Mech Navvies Ltd' on the tank & number on the bunker in the next couple of weeks. See the link above on Nigels post for a picture of it working at NCB Swalwell.

The plates on the footplate steps are British Transport Commision plates, to show the loco was registered to run on BR.

The works plates are still being made and will be put on the bunker when received.

Good to see the P & BR has a working austerity ready for the extension. Trust it will have sanders put on in due course? Having seen Glasshoughton stalling on 2 coaches thought I'd mention it!

Delighted its going back into its original livery, not inappropriate for the location either considering there was an opencast site by the line its going to be running on. Don't forget to send off photos to the steam mags.

    Well done to all concerned.

Thanks, sanders are going back on today. They were not fitted when it left the Flour Mill just in case they got damaged when the locomotive was moved by road.

Splendid job - one less fake J94. I am looking forward to a photo of the finished job.

Manning Wardle 1601 "Matthew Murray" is coming along nicely at the Middleton Railway after some repairs, retube and repaint. It is currently being lined out an e last few jobs being attended to. Should hopefully be tested and running in the not t distant future.

Thanks for the info on 71515 guys, very interesting. It's a nice livery and one less fake BR loco is always a good thing!

Does anyone know if there is a pattern that might be hired for brake blocks for an Andrew Barclay steam loco. Wheel diameter is 3ft and block is of the type that wraps around the tyre flange.

Re: Ugly No62 at Spa Valley Railway

it was moved into the painting tent last week and over the weekend the whole loco was treated to its first very bright topcoat! theres plenty more where that came from!! with the lining and lettering to follow after a few more coats its certainly going to look the part. some photos are on my fotopic site
