well, if we think it out,

2 months to put if back together?

6 months work on boiler maybe starting in earnest after 46115's repair???

so not before the end of the summe most likely.

I'm a MNLPS member, and the use of 35028 on other than the VSOE does come up from time to time. The last time it was mentioned, (in the magazine I think), the reason for not doing that much more is that the support/maintenance team is just not big enough to take on more work.

Very sad to read of 34067 and what many were suspecting. Done a lot of main line work, and the bill for that now has to be paid. With both the physical work and the financial cost of doing it.

Nice to see Dave "Dropgate" Wilson here now!

Hey Dave, still typing up my 1960s timing notes. Just typed the log of the 17.23 (FO), ex Waterloo on 19th March 1965. You had 34088 and were firing to "Sooty" Saunders. Loads of checks, but net time showed you picked up 12 mins on the schedule to Winchester.

I think you and Sooty must have come back with us on the 17.35 Weymouth, (or Sooty turned on the Gresley man at Southampton), as my note book records what must have been an interesting chat between you and Sooty and a Gresley fan who had somehow infiltrated our ranks! I think he was converted, but Sooty had told him to report for a footplate ride on an up Bournemouth train you were both booked on, (return of 02.45 ex Waterloo I think), so he could witness first hand why Bulleids were best!

Oh. The 17.35 from Weymouth was 34101 on 12 cars that night. Roy Sloper from Eastleigh driving and, oops, sorry, don't have the fireman's name! Another heavily checked run and I suspect the loco wasn't up to much as Roy "only" picked up a net 3 mins on schedule. But the train was booked for a MN.

    Those were the days!

Sorry, just to let you know that many of the last posts made by 'LN 850' were not made by me. For instance the comment about 850 not returning to the mainline was not made by me.

    WARNING!!!!!!!

Just found that many PMs sent by 'me' were not sent by me, so I think it is fair to say you need to ignore many of the recent posts made by me.

This incident is currently being investigated. At the moment please don't speculate until we have looked at the situation and found out what has gone on.

    Regards

I’m hoping to visit the Bluebell Railway soon and have a ride behind 34059. But every time we look on the BB web site 34059 doesn’t seem to be working any service trains. Does anyone know why 34059 isn’t being used on a more regular basis for?

    Thanks

The simple answer is that it's cheaper to use 1638 and 80151 on the longest trains. But Archie comes out to play during the peak seasons and special event weekends, where the extra costs are covered by the extra visitors.

I believe that there is also a lubrication issue to sort out.

According to the latest loco roster just posted 34059 is not rostered out again until the 19th of June. (Roster posted 25/04/2010).

I'm sure the use of 34059 will be better justified once the Bluebell reach East Grinstead (not that it isn't already justified at peak times).

There's a shame. Let's hope it won't be out for too long.

According to the carpenter at mhr, who knows roland kennington and god knows however many people who know what is happening on the mainline, 34046 will not be back onto the mainline until she has a new tender. And as such isnt booked to do anything mainline this year.

Reading another thread today about rebuilding a MN. There is talk about Ian Riley starting work on 35009. There now could be a good chance of getting four MN’s together at some point and all in steam.

    35006
    35009
    35027
    35028
Now that would be an event to attend.

35027 is some way off though, overhaul isnt very far underway and 35009 wont be a quick job either.

I understand the time period of overhauling a loco. I was just hoping that this could happen at some point in the future.

Even better if you could add 35005 into the mix!

Anyone out know what's happening to 35010? I know she needs a new cylinder. Will she ever run again with her present owners?

    Thanks
