I have just booked on this tour and am looking forward to double headed Great Western steam past the sea wall and over the Devon Banks. Anyone booked on it?

Presumably there will be a Tyseley - Barton Hill via Oxford move in for the day before ?.

Actually, l1avs has a point - Plymouth is in Devon, the train never reaches Cornwall!

Plymouth is on the Devon side of the Tamar in order to get to the Cornish side you have to Cross Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge!

To be honest I haven't a clue, but Plymouth is seperated from Cornwall by about 300 yards of water so it's pretty close. :)
And the Cornishman used to stop in Plymouth!!

My thinking was, it's a long way from Penzance, it's original destination.

:embarassed: Doh.. My excuse, I have a relation who lives just across the Tamar from Plymouth, and therefore in Cornwall, forgot that the county boundary was there....

Tornado's first trip over the South Devon Banks to Plymouth was called the "Tamar Tornado", even though Tornado has STILL not crossed the Tamar!

In the 1952 timetable, the name The Cornishman was applied by the BR(WR) to a train from Wolverhampton Low Level (09:15) and Birmingham Snow Hill (09:50) to Plymouth and Penzance (17:55), travelling via Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Bristol. The return working left Penzance at 10:30 reaching Birmingham at 18:36 and Wolverhampton at 19:28. Catering was available throughout the journey and the train conveyed a portion for Torquay and Kingswear.

    From Wikipedia

Given the tour originates in Birmingham , perhaps they felt it appropriate to rekindle a steam age name

Maybe l1avs is confusing this tour with the Railway Touring Company trip of the same name which runs 2 weeks later and DOES go into Cornwall :D

Not another sweatshirt to look out for!! Why can't you all just have your faces painted in your favoured livery?
It would make life a lot easier.:)

The times for the move from Tyseley to Bristol are now on uksteam. http://uksteam.info/tours/t10/t0514p.htm

At the top only 5043 is listed, while in the table itself 4965 is listed also. Will 4965 be on this trip?

Most likely an oversight on Davids part. ......Just looked again and David has corrected the heading.
Also times for Sat are also now on UKSteam.

Looks a good path, waters at Tiverton on the down and Exeter on the up, should allow for a run at all the banks then :)
