I believe it is a tradition when going to Cornwall as its supposed to bring luck and protection.

Yes, The Gnomes were present on the 2002 record run as well. Being that the King perfomed well on both occasions it would seem that a gnome should ride on all locos from now on!

Has the King managed to catch a Sparrow in the front end? She has a horrible squeak up front!

 

Actually its the gnome sitting on the inside motion cleaning, as thats where he lives when the loco is not in Cornwall...........................

Surely its not a gnome but a Cornish Piskey? I think he went back to Cornwall on 6024 to visit his friends following his escape from Cornwall in 2008 - see: http://skysearchslocogallery.fotopic.net/p64641336.html.
