The 40 and Whizzo pass through Plymouth during the steam's layover around 15:30 by the look of it :) , wonder if a move to Saltash and back in the interval is feasible...

No trains from Saltash to Plymouth between the 40 and Whizzo coming up and the steam leaving Plymouth.

Fast car there and back is recommended.

Off to Bristol today with the two engines. Tomorrow should be a treat for the linesiders, they'll have the sight of a Castle pushing a Hall over the Devon Banks!!:behindsofa:

The Cornishman will be running to Plymouth behind two steam engines from Bristol Temple Meads on Saturday morning. 4965 Rood Ashton Hall and GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 no 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe were passing through Temple Meads Station this evening.

I turned up at Platform 3 hoping to photograph the two steam engines, but I didn't anticipate the departure of the Portbury car train from Temple Meads. Words failed me as it passed by masking my view of the two locomotives I wanted to see.

I was wondering is that Portbury Car Train longer than the full length of the platforms at Temple Meads?

Good shots - 5043 not looking as mucky as she did last time she was behind the Hall!

Just got back, what a trip, Whiteball absolutely destroyed (someone said 61MPH into the tunnel but cannot confirm), the Thunderous noise on Dainton & Hemerdon will live long in the memory, smart running on the flatter sections saw us constantly gaining time and being checked as a result, though the attack on Dainton westbound was judged to perfection, going 'easy' through Teignmouth to allow other traffic to get clear then 'giving the gun' about a mile short of Newton Abbott, nice whistle exchange with 5526 at Totnes too,

Plymouth at one point had more the look of a Preserved Railway Gala about as for around 20 mins it's platforms contained a Hall, Castle, Western, Class 40, Royal class 67's and the VSOE!.

Will upload my pics in the morning, afraid most are run of the mill plat end shots (not much choice when travelling) but hopefully the ones out the window on the banks will make up for it a lil
