No chopper following it out of Edinburgh. I have no inside info, but my guess is that the diesel will come off at York because 45407 was allowed to run without one yesterday, so I'm presuming the restriction is with 60019 and not all steam. However, there may be other operational reasons for keeping it on that I'm not aware of.

Were currently sat still waiting entry to peterborough West yard. Been waiting to get in best part of 30 mins. We've been told by the Train Mgr that there is a freight in the road we need for water. Why it's there we don't know. 6233 was doing really well until she got brought to a stand here.

I think this was probably my favourite pic I managed to get of the tour, even though it's from a somewhat unconventional angle:

Thanks to those who have shared their pics of 6233. Some of us further south got shafted by the one big cloud we'd seen all evening. If she had been on time the light was fantastic but the 40 minutes delay in getting water at Peterborough did for us. In my case the sun came out again an minute after she'd passed. Typical. :(

According to todays Daily Mail, 50 people took up the dining option at almost £300 per head, including a 4-course lunch. I know that the train wasn't full this year, but room for another 50 in dining?

Sorry, if I didn't make it clear, this is the daily mail item,

Stranded air passengers revert to steam

Stranded air travellers reverted to steam power yesterday as the volcanic ash cloud wreaked havoc across northern Britain. Fifty passengers stuck in Edinburgh after the airport was closed snapped up the spare seats on the special service to London’s King’s Cross organised by railway enthusiasts. The journey on the train, hauled by an 80-year-old locomotive, took 11 hours - compared with just over an hour by plane. Tickets cost almost £300 including a four course lunch.

According to Marcus Robinson of Steam Dreams, who was speaking live from the train on Radio Five Live yesterday, there were about 50 seats available and 13 of these were taken up by 'stranded' passengers.

    Worth listening too..

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00sfsmd

Starts at about 1hr 39min 44secs and runs for about four and half minutes.
