The steam section timings for this one are a bit disappointing following the run on the 8th. Leaving Crewe at the same time as the Glasgow service and still having pathing stop at Acton Bridge is something that I've never known before.
Then on the way back we depart 12 minutes later? then have to wait 21 minutes at Greyrigg, then the water stop, but that is a necessity, and then a further 10 minutes in Preston.:confused1:

Hoping to be at Acton Bridge this Saturday! So will mean an early start from Chester to get a decent spot at the platform end when I get there.

Acton Bridge on the down is for the retimed 0920 Birmingham to Glasgow to pass.

On the return the train gets looped at Grayrigg for the 1618 Carlisle-Bristol charter, the 1540 Glasgow-Euston and 1600 Glasgow-Birmingham to pass. There is also an Oxenholme-Peterborough charter to consider.

At Carnforth the 1721 Barrow-Preston, 1821 Edinburgh-Manchester Airport and 1640 Glasgow-Euston are booked to pass.

At Preston the 1652 Edinburgh-Birmingham preceeds.

    John.

I should avoid Acton Bridge if you want to see 6233 passing at speed, it appears we will be looped there for a few minutes. The loop itself is some distance the Crewe side of the station so although accerating we will still be fairly slow. In fact the whole way to Warrington will be spoilt as we will no doubt be on the slow out of Crewe and therefore slow through Winsford rejoing the fast, then slowing at Hartford. You would be as well trying to get to Daresbury, but that involves quite a long walk.. Perhaps risk Warrington..

After looking at train times, I have decided to NOT to go to Acton Bridge as I would miss 60163 at Crewe. So I have decided to go back to Daresbury on Saturday. Then see 60163 arrive into Chester later on.

6233 was around 5 minutes early at Golborne. I got stuck in road works on the East Lancs and didn't get there in time to get a good position for a photo so was shooting into the sun. Diesel on the back due to fire risk I was told by another linesider.

6233 left Carlisle about 30 minutes down, owing to a late Voyager service. She was directly following a class 56 hauled railtour, and was working nicely at Wreay. Diesel on the back was pushing gently; a sensible decision.

As you will have gathered the diesel did push in certain places, the word from Network Rail was that if any steam loco started fires this weekend, then there could be severe restrictions in the following weeks. This left little option then other than to use the diesel assistance.

Some of the other tours on the same day sempt to run without the Diesel attached, I was watching reports yesterday hoping no fires. I'm booked on the Cheshireman in 3 weeks, will be duff if the tour runs with a Diesel. Here's hoping for some rain in the meantime !
