I have been doing some research on this line and i belive there is a missing bridge that stops the two groups joining together. does anyone know how long this bridge was or what it was called, and if there is any real hope of this ever being put back? cheers Gavin

There are several missing bridges, a viaduct and a section of embankment which needs to be replaced before the stainmore company have any chance of reaching us at warcop, if you wanted to do it id reckon 20-25million quid to rebuild the line between the two

Wasn't the famous BTF short "Snowdrift at Bleath Gill" somewhere along this line? I seem to remember it being in a short cutting somewhere near the viaduct and Stainmore summit.

The Stainmore route from Tebay to Barnard Castle had many viaducts, some still intact but several demolished. Belah being the most famous. Bleath Gill is mid way between Barras station and Stainmore summit.

And my snowplough NER number 18 was the star of the film.
Currently being rebuilt at Shildon and due to return to the NYMR later this year.

I think we should wait till 78018 is rebuilt, then re-make this great film@NYMR, should be good fun, i know someone whos the great grandson of the guard of the train that got stuck who'd quite lke to be a part of it.....Me!

Bleath Gill is possibly my favourite of all the BTFs. Just one thing puzzles me - just how did the camera crew happen to be at the right place, at the right time to ride out with the rescue team when conditions were so atrocious? And at the very start of the film they give every impression of having been there BEFORE the rescue train actually showed up!
I assume they started out from Barnard Castle which is not exactly the film capital of England so were the BTF crew just waiting around for a train to get stuck somewhere? I bet the backstory is quite interesting.

They cleared one track first, then came back to clear the other track(on which the train was stuck) in all likelyhood the film crew were probably dropped off when one line was clear and waited for the snowplough train to return. From what im told the crew managed to get across the fields and took shelter at a nearby farm, usual procedure it would seem!

The train had been stuck that long that the film crew had time to get to site from London or wherever in time to capture the rescue.
The A66 is within 1/2 a mile and a country lane runs alongside nearly at the site. So road access may also have been possible.
